Sri Lanka stocks close higher

ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka stocks closed 0.75 per cent higher on Friday, index heavy LOLC Holdings, Hayleys Plc and VallibelOne pushed ASPI up, brokers said.

The Colombo benchmark All Share Price Index gained 53.91 points to close at 7,242.00.

The index opened at 7,188.09 but shot up immediately with the market opening and continued to increase throughout the day.

The S&P SL20 index of more liquid stocks up 1.64 per cent or 46.54 points to close at 2,885.50.

Turnover was 2.7 billion rupees with 115 stocks gaining and 56 falling.

LOLC Holdings up 7.25 rupees to close at 328.25 rupees contributing most for ASPI’ gain, Brown and Company up 75 cents to close at 184.00 rupees a share and Browns Investment up 10 cents to close at 6.80 rupees a share.

LOLC Finance closed 10 cents down at 6.40 rupees.

Hayleys Plc closed 3.90 rupees up at 79.60 rupees with key subsidiaries Dipped Products climbing 1.60 rupees to close at 56.60 rupees and Haycarb Plc up 2.75 rupees to close at 105.75 rupees.

John Keells Holdings closed 1.00 rupees down at 135.00 rupees a share while Vallibel One up 2.50 rupees to close at 56.00 rupees a share.

The Kingsbury closed flat at 6.00 and Singer Sri Lanka closed 30 cents up at 18.90 rupees.

Expolanka Holdings gained 10 cents to close at 45.60 rupees a share and Melstacorp Holdings closed 70 cents up at 44.90 rupees a share.

Commercial Bank of Ceylon closed 50 cents up at 80.10 rupees.

Hatton National Bank closed 50 cents up at 130.00 rupees a share and Sampath Bank closed 90 cents up at 51.00 rupees a share

DFCC Bank closed 90 cents down at 58.10 rupees and Nations Trust Bank closed flat at 53.90 rupees.

Seylan Bank closed flat at 50.00 rupees and Pan Asia Banking Corporation closed flat at 16.00 rupees.

Housing Development Finance also closed flat at 36.30 rupees while Central Finance Company closed 1.30 rupees up at 82.60 rupees.

Bukit Darah closed flat at 290.00 rupees, Hemas Holdings closed 70 cents up at 80.20 rupees, Ceylon Grain Elevators closed 1.50 rupees up at 128.00 rupees and Distilleries Company closed 10 cents up at 20.40 rupees a share.

Eden Hotel Lanka closed 20 cents down at 9.80 rupees in the hotel sector while Aitken Spence Hotel Holdings closed 50 cents up at 28.70 rupees and John Keels Hotels gained 30 cents to close at 9.30 rupees a share.

Access Engineering closed 10 cents up at 23.00 rupees while Carson Cumberbatch closed 2.00 rupees down at 275.00 rupees.

Nestle Lanka closed 6.25 rupees up at 1,030.00 rupees and Aitken Spence Plc closed 20 cents up at 50.00 rupees.

Sri Lanka Telecom closed 60 cents down at 32.90 rupees, Richard Pieris and Company closed flat at 15.70 rupees and Dialog Axiata also closed flat at 12.70 rupees.

Piramal Glass Ceylon closed 10 cents down at 11.20 rupees, Ceylon Cold stores closed 25 cents down at 579.75 rupees and Ceylon Tobacco Company PLC fell 11.75 rupees to close at 974.50 rupees a share.

Windforce Closed 10 cents up at 18.20 rupees.

Royal Ceramic Lanka gained 2.50 rupees to close at 37.00 rupees, Lanka Tiles gained 1.90 rupees to close at 48.40 rupees, Lanka Walltiles up 2.30 rupees to close at 49.30 rupees while Lanka Ceramic closed flat at 132.00 rupees.

The Capital goods sector was the highest active gained 2.14 per cent. (Colombo/May 07/2021)
