ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka stocks closed 0.23 per cent lower on Monday after the market gained continuously last week hitting the 8,000 psychological ASPI benchmark, Colombo Stock Exchange data showed.
The Colombo benchmark All Share Price Index fell 19.06 points to close at 8,117.70.
The S&P SL20 index of more liquid stocks fell 0.46 per cent or 14.36 points to close at 3,077.95.
ASPI opened the day above 8,200 but remained volatile and plunged during mid-day trade to 8,129 after picking up marginally to plunge again before close.
Turnover was 4.6 billion rupees with 89 stocks gaining and 104 falling.
LOLC Holdings closed 9.50 rupees down at 460.25 rupees a share contributing most to ASPI’s fall.
LOLC Development Finance closed 69.50 rupees up at 534.25 rupees a share gaining the most in the market.
LOLC Finance closed 20 cents to close at 6.80 rupees a share, Browns Investment closed flat at 6.40 rupees a share while Brown and Company fell 75 cents to close at 185.75 rupees a share.
John Keells Holdings closed 1.00 rupees down at 138.25 rupees a share and Vallibel one closed 1.30 rupees down at 57.30 rupees a share.
Carson Cumberbatch closed 25 cents down at 299.50 rupees and Expolanka Holdings closed 50 cents down at 67.40 rupees a share.
Hayleys Plc closed 1.80 rupees down at 82.10 rupees with key subsidiaries Haycarb Plc closed 60 cents down at 98.70 rupees and Dipped Products fell 1.00 rupee to close at 58.30 rupees.
The Kingsbury closed 10 cents up at 8.20 and Singer Sri Lanka closed 10 cents down at 18.70 rupees.
Ceylon Tobacco Company PLC closed 15.00 rupees down at 960.00 rupees, Piramal Glass Ceylon closed 80 cents down at 13.60 rupees and Ceylon Cold Stores closed 4.75 rupees down at 655.25 rupees.
Sri Lanka Telecom closed 90 cents down at 33.50 rupees, Richard Pieris and Company closed 10 cents up at 17.20 rupees.
Dialog Axiata closed 30 cents down at 11.70 rupees, Nestle Lanka closed 17.00 rupees up at 1,342.25 rupees and Kotmale Holdings closed flat at 414.00 rupees a share.
Commercial Leasing and Finance PLC closed 10 cents down at 7.60 rupees a share and Dialog Finance Plc closed flat at 86.60 rupees a share.
Housing Development Finance closed 90 cents up at 36.90 rupees while Central Finance Company closed 50 cents down at 89.60 rupees.
Commercial Bank of Ceylon closed 1.20 rupee down at 83.90 rupees.
Hatton National Bank closed flat at 129.50 rupees a share and Sampath Bank closed 80 cents down at 51.30 rupees a share.
DFCC Bank closed 1.10 rupees down at 59.10 rupees and Nations Trust Bank closed 20 cents down at 56.00 rupees.
Seylan Bank closed flat at 47.60 rupees and Pan Asia Banking Corporation closed 20 cents down at 15.80 rupees.
Bukit Darah closed 3.50 rupees down at 308.00 rupees and Hemas Holdings closed 70 cents down at 79.90 rupees.
Ceylon Grain Elevators closed flat at 144.25 rupees.

In the hotel sector, Eden Hotel Lanka closed 1.70 rupees down at 16.00 rupees while John Keells Hotels closed 40 cents up at 10.90 rupees a share and Aitken Spence Hotel Holdings closed 10 cents down at 31.00 rupees.
Access Engineering closed flat at 23.00 rupees.
Aitken Spence Plc closed flat at 62.80 rupees.
Windforce Closed flat at 19.00 rupees, Chrissworld limited closed flat at 12.90 rupees and Prime Land Residencies closed flat at 9.60 rupees.
Royal Ceramic Lanka closed 50 cents down at 38.60 rupees, Lanka Tiles closed 20 cents up at 55.80 rupees, Lanka Walltiles closed 80 cents down at 68.00 rupees while Lanka ceramic closed 1.25 rupees down at 153.00 rupees.
