Sri Lanka stocks close stronger in volatile trade
ECONOMYNEXT- Sri Lanka stocks closed 0.09 percent higher amid volatile trading, provisional data showed.
Colombo’s All Share Price Index gained 5.13 points to 5,883.42 and the S&P SL20 Index of more liquid stocks fell 0.04 percent or 1.29 points to 2,887.05.
The ASPI gained 10 points to 5,888.32 before tumbling down to an intra-day low of 5,878.35 within the first hour of trading.
Volatility remained throughout the day, with the index reaching an intra-day’s high of 5,888.46 at noon.
The market turnover was 799 million rupees with 61 stocks gaining and 65 falling.
Lanka Realty Investments closed trading 8.10 rupees up at 43.20 rupees a share and Cargill Ceylon gained 3.40 rupees to 189.00 rupees a share, pushing the ASPI up.
Asian Hotels and Properties, a John Keells Holdings subsidiary closed 1.50 rupees up at 38.50 rupees a share, also contributing to ASPI’s gain.
Sri Lanka Telecom closed 60 cents down at 28 rupees a share and Lanka Hospitals Corporation closed 4.40 rupees down at 45 rupees a share. (Colombo, 03 September, 2019)
