Sri Lanka stocks down 0.30-pct, rupee gains
ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka stocks closed 0.30 percent lower on a dull day of trading Friday with turnover falling 86 percent while the rupee gained against the US dollars, brokers and dealers said.
The rupee closed the week at 155.35/45 against the US dollar, appreciating slightly on seasonal inflows, dealers said. The US dollar closed at 155.42/52 rupees the previous day.
The Colombo All Share index fell 19.38 points to 6,455.32, and the S&P SL20 of more liquid stocks closed flat, down 0.01 percent to 3,656.89 points.
Market turnover was 134.6 million rupees, down from 993.4 million rupees the previous day.
Foreign selling was 19.1 million rupees, compared to buying of 422 million rupees on Thursday.
Distilleries (down 70 cents to 21.10 rupees), Ceylinco Insurance (down 149.40 rupees to 1,650.60 rupees) and Dialog (down 10 cents to 13.90 rupees) weighed down the benchmark index.
There were no crossing, or off-market negotiated trades. (COLOMBO, 06 April, 2018)
