Sri Lanka stocks down 0.5-pct
ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka stocks fell 0.51 percent on Monday with index heavy Ceylon Tobacco Company, LOLC Holdings and Vallibel One losing ground, after strong gains made over recent days, Colombo Stock Exchange data showed.
Turnover was 1.8 billion rupees with 69 stocks gaining and 88 falling.
The Colombo benchmark All Share Price Index fell 38.21 points to close at 7,438.13.
The market reached an intraday high at 7,549.09 during the first hour into trading.
The S&P SL20 index of more liquid stocks fell 0.08 percent or 2.33 points to close at 2,964.30.
LOLC Holdings fell 5.50 rupees to close at 359.50 rupees.
LOLC Finance, fell 20 cents to close at 6.60 rupees, Browns and Company fell 6.00 rupees to close at 170.00 rupees and Browns Investment closed 10 cents down at 5.70 rupees.
Vallibel One fell 1.50 rupees to close at 56.10 rupees while John Keells Holdings gained 1.25 rupees to close at 153.50 rupees.
Hayleys Plc closed 1.40 rupees down at 60.60 rupees with key subsidiaries Dipped Products falling 1.30 rupees to close at 49.00 rupees and Haycarb Plc falling 3.65 rupees to close at 99.10 rupees.
The Kingsbury Plc closed 30 cents down at 11.50 rupees while Singer Industries Ceylon closed 60 cents up at 94.90 rupees.
Ceylon Tobacco Company closed 49.50 rupees down at 1,000.50 rupees contributing most to the ASPI fall.
Ceylon Cold stores closed 6.00 rupees down at 641.75 rupees and Piramal Glass Ceylon closed flat at 9.90 rupees.
Commercial Bank of Ceylon closed 50 cents down at 88.30 rupees and Hatton National Bank closed 75 cents at 133.00 rupees.
DFCC Bank closed 2.84 rupees up at 62.70 rupees, Sampath Bank closed 75cents up at 156.50 rupees and Nations Trust Bank closed flat at 58.00 rupees.
Seylan Bank closed 40 cents up at 50.00 rupees while Pan Asia Banking Corporation fell 20 cents to close at 17.00 rupees.
Central Finance Company gained 1.40 rupees to close at 91.70 rupees and Alliance Finance Company gained 1.40 rupees to close at 51.40 rupees while Citizens Development Business Finance closed flat at 116.00 rupees.
Ceylinco Insurance closed flat at 2,000.00 rupees, Housing Development Finance fell 1.40 rupees to close at 37.50 rupees.
Expolanka gained 60 cents to close at 47.10 rupees while Melstacorp Holdings closed 50 cents down at 49.60 rupees a share.
Royal Ceramic Lanka closed 4.75 rupees down at 280.75 rupees, Lanka Tiles fell 6.75 to close at 200.25 rupees while Lanka Walltiles closed 3.50 rupees up at 208.00 rupees.
Cargills Ceylon closed flat at 235.50 rupees, Distilleries Company fell 20 cents to close at 20.90, Ceylon Grain Elevators fell 2.00 rupees to close at 125.75 rupees while Hemas Holdings closed 1.60 rupees up at 82.60 rupees
In the hotel sector Eden Hotel Lanka closed 20 cents up at 10.70 rupees, Sigiriya Village Hotel closed flat at 32.20 rupees, John Keels Hotels closed 10 cents up at 10.50and Aitken Spence Hotel Holdings gained 10 cents to close at 29.80 rupees.
Carson Cumberbatch closed 10.25 rupees up at 275.00 rupees while Access Engineering fell 10 cents to close at 24.00 rupees.
Nestle Lanka closed 50 centsup at 1,199.25 rupees and Aitken Spence Plc closed flat at 61.00 rupees.
Sri Lanka Telecom closed 20 cents up at 35.00 rupees while Richard Pieris and Company closed 30 cents down at 16.00 rupees and Dialog Axiata closed flat at 12.70 rupees.
The Capital Goods Industry was the most active, fell 0.55 percent today. (Colombo/March 01/2021)
