Sri Lanka stocks end 0.10-pct higer

ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka stocks gained 0.10 percent on Monday, pushed up by LOLC Holdings, Browns Investments and Distilleries, brokers said.

The Colombo benchmark All Share Price Index gained 7.40 points to close at 7,215.60.

The index fell to a daily low at 7,196.62 during the first hour into trading but picked up and continued to increase on volatile trading.

The S&P SL20 index of more liquid stocks fell 0.67 per cent or 19.16 points to close at 2,850.09.

Turnover was two billion rupees with 51 stocks gaining and 107 falling.

LOLC Holdings gained 15.75 rupees to close at 336.75 rupees contributing most for ASPI’s gain, Brown and Company gained 11.50 rupees to close at 191.75 and Browns Investment gained 40 cents to close at 6.80 rupees a share.

LOLC Finance closed 30 cents down at 6.60 rupees.

Expolanka Holdings fell 1.20 rupees to close at 45.50 rupees a share and Melstacorp Holdings closed flat at 45.10 rupees a share.

Hayleys Plc closed 1.20 rupees down at 75.10 rupees with key subsidiaries Dipped Products falling 1.10 rupees to close at 54.40 rupees and Haycarb Plc falling 1.75 rupees to close at 102.50 rupees.

A 197 million negotiated trading was seen in John Keells Holdings at 140.00 rupees a share and the stock closed 1.25 rupees down at 139.75 rupees a share and Vallibel One fell 1.30 rupees to close at 53.10 rupees a share.

The Kingsbury closed flat at 5.80 and Singer Sri Lanka closed 60 cents down at 18.60 rupees.

Commercial Bank of Ceylon closed 1.20 rupee down at 79.50 rupees.

A 64.7 million rupees crossing was seen in Hatton National Bank at 130.00 rupees a share and the stock closed at 129.75 rupees.

A 26 million rupees crossing was seen in Sampath bank at 52.00 rupees a share and the stock closed 60 cents down at 49.20 rupees a share

DFCC Bank closed 40 cents down at 57.00 rupees and Nations Trust Bank closed 30 cents down at 53.50 rupees.

Seylan Bank closed 40 cents down at 48.00 rupees and Pan Asia Banking Corporation closed 30 cents down at 15.10 rupees.

Housing Development Finance closed 1.60 rupees down at 33.30 rupees while Central Finance Company closed 10 cents up at 81.30 rupees.

Bukit Darah closed flat at 300.00 rupees, Hemas Holdings closed 50 cents down at 80.00 rupees and rupees Ceylon Grain Elevators closed 1.00 rupees down at 127.00 rupees while Distilleries Company closed 80 cents up at 20.50.

In the hotel sector Eden Hotel Lanka closed 40 cents up at 10.10 rupees while Aitken Spence Hotel Holdings closed 1.30 rupees down at 28.30 rupees and John Keels Hotels closed 10 cents down at 9.50 rupees a share.

Access Engineering closed 40 cents down at 22.60 rupees and Carson Cumberbatch closed flat at 275.00 rupees.

Nestle Lanka closed 7.75rupees up at 1,007.75 rupees and Aitken Spence Plc closed 70 cents down at 52.00 rupees.

Sri Lanka Telecom closed 30 cents up at 33.50 rupees, Dialog Axiata closed 10 cents up at 12.70 rupees while Richard Pieris and Company closed 10 cents down at 15.90 rupees.

Ceylon Tobacco Company closed 6.75 rupees down at 963.25 rupees, and Piramal Glass Ceylon closed flat at 11.50 rupees while Ceylon Cold stores closed 75 cents up at 581.75 rupees.

Windforce Closed 20 cents down at 18.00 rupees.

Royal Ceramic Lanka fell 90 cents to close at 34.10 rupees, Lanka Tiles fell 40 cents to close at 44.80 rupees and Lanka Walltiles fell 1.00 rupees to close at 46.20 rupees while Lanka Ceramic closed 4.75 rupees up at 130.75 rupees.

Net foreign sales were 234.1 million rupees.

The Food, Beverage and Tobacco Industry which was the most active gained 0.99 percent today. (Colombo/May 03/2021)
