Sri Lanka stocks end 0.19-pct higher on banks, telco buying
ECONOMYNEXT- Sri Lanka’s Colombo Stock Exchange gained 0.19 percent on Monday, on the back of buying interest on banking and telco stock, provisional data showed.
The main All Share Price Index (ASPI) ended 10.53 points up at 5,567.77, after reaching an intra-day high of 5574.06 in the afternoon session from a low of 5,555.16 at market open.
The more liquid stocks on the S&P SL20 Index fell 22.24 points to 2,716.71.
Monday’s turnover was 458.63 million rupees, with 86 stocks gaining and 52 falling.
There was buying interest from foreigners, with net inflows of 358.68 million rupees into the market.
State-owned telco Sri Lanka Telecom contributed most to the ASPI gain, closing 60 cents higher at 22 rupees per share.
Commercial Bank share ended at 99.80 rupees, up 1.10 rupees, while Hatton National Bank share closed at 174.70 rupees, up 2.27 rupees.
Meanwhile, Sampath Bank closed 7.79 rupees lower at 165.20 rupee.
Index-heavy diversified John Keells Holdings, which contributed 80 percent to the turnover, closed 1 rupee lower at 155 rupees per share.(Colombo/Apr01/2019)
