Sri Lanka stocks end 0.29-pct lower
ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka stocks fell 0.29 percent on Tuesday after recovering some of the losses yesterday, dragged down by LOLC Holdings, Expolanka Holdings and Ceylon Tobacco Company, Brokers said.
Turnover was 2.7 billion rupees with 103 stocks gaining and 82 falling.
The Colombo benchmark All Share Price Index fell 21.55 points to close at 7,296.88.
The market reached an intraday high at 7,466.66 during the first hour into trading but started to fall on volatile trading before closing marginally high.
The S&P SL20 index of more liquid stocks gained 0.11 percent or 3.29 points to close at 2,909.98.
LOLC Holdings fell 6.75 rupees to close at 321.25 rupees contributing most for the ASPI fall.
LOLC Finance fell 20 cents to close at 6.20 rupees, Browns and Company fell 6.50 rupees to close at 168.75 rupees and Browns Investment closed 10 cents down at 5.50 rupees.
Expolanka fell 1.90 rupees to close at 46.50 rupees and Melstacorp Holdings closed 10 cents down at 47.90 rupees a share.
Ceylon Tobacco Company closed 10.75 rupees down at 1,003.50 rupees while Ceylon Cold stores closed 16.00 rupees up at 626.00 rupees and Piramal Glass Ceylon closed flat at 9.80 rupees.
Vallibel One fell 1.40 rupees to close at 53.10 rupees and John Keells Holdings closed flat at 150.00 rupees.
Hayleys Plc closed 10 cents up at 60.50 rupees with key subsidiaries Dipped Products gaining 10 cents to close at 50.20 rupees while Haycarb Plc falling 5.80 rupees to close at 97.70 rupees.
Commercial Bank of Ceylon closed 1.90 rupees up at 88.10 rupees and Hatton National Bank closed 1.00 rupees up at 131.00 rupees.
DFCC Bank closed 1.60 rupees down at 60.70 rupees, Nations trust bank fell 30 cents to close at 57.20 rupees and Sampath bank closed 2.00 up at 155.25 rupees.
Seylan Bank closed 1.70 rupees down at 52.70 rupees and Pan Asia Banking Corporation fell 30 cents to close at 16.80 rupees.
Central Finance Company fell 90 cents to close at 85.10 rupees while Alliance Finance Company gained 20 cents to close at 50.90 rupees and Citizens Development Business Finance close 6.00 rupees up at 113.75 rupees.
Ceylinco Insurance closed flat at 2,060.00 rupees and Housing Development Finance gained 1.40 rupees to close at 35.90 rupees.
Royal Ceramic Lanka closed 1.00 rupees down at 259.75 rupees, Lanka Walltiles closed 50 cents down at 196.75 rupees while Lanka tiles gained 25 cents to close at 186.25 rupees.
Cargills Ceylon closed 3.00 rupees up at 238.00 rupees, Hemas Holdings closed 80 cents up at 82.70 rupees, while Distilleries Company fell 20 cents to close at 20.80 and Ceylon Grain Elevators fell 1.50 rupees to close at 119.00 rupees.
In the hotel sector Eden Hotel Lanka closed 10 cents down at 10.50 rupees while Sigiriya Village hotel closed 30 cents up at 33.70 rupees, John Keels Hotels closed 10 cents up at 10.20 and Aitken Spence Hotel holdings gained 20 cents to close at 30.00 rupees.
Carson Cumberbatch closed 50 cents up at 285.00 rupees and Access Engineering gained 50 cents to close at 23.60 rupees.
Nestle Lanka closed flat at 1,175.00 rupees and Aitken Spence Plc closed 50 cents up at 59.60 rupees.
Sri Lanka Telecom closed 70 cents down at 33.10 rupees, Richard Pieris and Company closed 20 cents down at 16.50 rupees while Dialog Axiata closed 10 cents up at 13.00 rupees.
The Capital Goods Industry was the most active, fell 0.5 percent today. (Colombo/March 09/2021)
