Sri Lanka stocks end 0.34-pct higher

ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka stocks gained 0.34 per cent on Monday continuing the momentum for the second week into April with ASPI pushed up index heavy Hayleys Plc, Haycarb and Distilleries, a broker said.

The Colombo benchmark All Share Price Index gained 24.55 points to close at 7,217.83.

The S&P SL20 index of more liquid stocks gained 0.23 per cent or 6.58 points to close at 2,874.30.

Turnover was 2.09 billion rupees with 94 stocks gaining and 70 falling.

Hayleys Plc closed 4.00 rupees up at 67.40 rupees contributing most for the gain of ASPI gain with key subsidiaries Dipped Products gaining 2.20 rupees to close at 49.30 rupees and Haycarb Plc gaining 8.00 rupees to close at 103.50 rupees.

John Keells Holdings closed flat at 150 rupees a share and Vallibel One gained 1.10 to close at 49.90 rupees.

The Kingsbury closed flat at 6.10 rupees while Singer Sri Lanka closed 20 cents up at 17.10 rupees.

Browns Investment closed flat at 5.70 and Browns and Company gained 25 cents to close at 163.00 rupees.

LOLC Holdings gained 1.75 to close at 297.50 rupees and LOLC Finance closed flat at 5.90 rupees.

Expolanka holdings gained 20 cents to close at 46.20 rupees and Melstacorp Holdings closed flat at 44.80 rupees a share.

Commercial Bank of Ceylon closed 90 cents down at 84.70 rupees, Hatton National Bank closed 1.75 rupees down at 123.50 rupees.

DFCC Bank closed 30 cents up at 59.60 rupees, and Nations Trust Bank closed 90 cents up at 54.50 rupees.

Seylan Bank closed 2.40 rupees down at 48.60 rupees and Pan Asia Banking Corporation closed 30 cents down at 14.20 rupees.

Housing Development Finance closed 1.00 up at 34.90 rupees while Central Finance Company closed 60 cents down at 82.30 rupees.

Royal Ceramic Lanka closed 9.75 rupees up at 278.25 rupees, Lanka tiles gained 2.50 rupees up at 43.80 rupees and Lanka Walltiles gained 2.10 to close at 44.00 rupees.

Bukit Darah closed flat at 329.50 rupees, Hemas Holdings closed 10 cents up at 82.80 rupees, Ceylon Grain Elevators closed 1.00 rupees up at 123.25 rupees while Distilleries Company closed 50 cents up at 20.20 rupees.

In the hotel sector Eden Hotel Lanka closed flat at 10.20 rupees, Aitken Spence Hotel Holdings closed flat at 30.10 rupees while John Keels Hotels closed 10 cents down at 9.50.

Carson Cumberbatch closed 2.50 down at 275.00 rupees while Access Engineering closed 50 cents up at 23.50 rupees.

Nestle Lanka closed 11.50 rupees down at 1,122.00 rupees and Aitken Spence Plc closed 2.00 rupees down at 55.10 rupees.

Sri Lanka Telecom closed 50 cents up at 33.50 rupees, Dialog Axiata closed 10 cents down at 12.80 rupees and Richard Pieris and Company closed 10 cents down at 16.70 rupees.

Ceylon Tobacco Company closed 1.00 rupees down at 988.50 rupees, Ceylon Cold stores closed 5.00 up at 618.00 rupees and Piramal Glass Ceylon closed flat at 11.20 rupees.

The market recorded a net foreign sales amounted to 372 million rupees today.

The Materials Industry was the most active, gained 3.8 percent today. (Colombo/April 05/2021)
