Sri Lanka stocks end 0.46-pct lower, selling on Ceylinco

ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka’s stocks ended 0.46 percent lower on Friday with selling interest in Ceylinco Insurance and Sri Lanka Telecom, provisional data showed.
 
Colombo’s All Share Price Index  (ASPI) closed 24.52 points down at 5,327.68. 
 
The ASPI gained during the first hour of trading, reaching an intra-day high of 5,365.86. It then plunged to an intra-day low of 5,315.83 in the final half hour of the day, before recovering.
 
The S&P SL20 Index of more liquid stocks closed 0.66 percent or 16.74 points lower at 2,519.08.
 
Market turnover was 152.8 million rupees, with 32 stocks gaining and 72 declining.
 
Ceylinco Insurance fell 273.50 rupees to 1,850.10 rupees a share and Sri Lanka Telecom ended 1.40 rupees down at 20.90 rupees a share, contributing to benchmark decline.
 
Index-heavy John Keells Holdings was the most active stock, closing 10 cents higher at 137.10 rupees a share. (COLOMBO, 10 May, 2019)
