Sri Lanka stocks end 0.48-pct higher recovering some of the losses
ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka stocks gained 0.48 percent recovering some of the losses on Friday on index heavy, Expolanka Holdings, John Keells Holdings and Sri Lanka telecom, pushing the ASPI up, Brokers said.
Turnover was 1.02 billion rupees with 98 stocks gaining and 65 falling.
The Colombo benchmark All Share Price Index gained 34.82 points to close at 7,247.48.
The market reached an intraday high at 7,303.13 during the first hour into trading.
The S&P SL20 index of more liquid stocks gained 0.89 percent or 25.62 points to close at 2,893.44.
Expolanka gained 1.50 rupees to close at 47.60 rupees contributing most for the ASPI gain and Melstacorp Holdings closed 20 cents down at 47.40 rupees a share.
John Keells Holdings gained 1.25 rupees to close at 149.75 rupees and Vallibel One gained 80 cents to close at 52.00 rupees.
Hayleys Plc closed 1.40 rupees up at 60.70 rupees with key subsidiaries Dipped Products gaining 1.50 rupees to close at 51.00 rupees and Haycarb Plc gaining 1.70 rupees to close at 101.00 rupees.
LOLC Holdings fell 25 cents to close at 315.50 rupees.
LOLC Finance closed flat at 6.10 rupees, Browns and Company fell 2.75 rupees to close at 168.00 rupees and Browns Investment closed 10 cents down at 5.30 rupees.
Commercial Bank of Ceylon closed 80 cents up at 86.90 rupees and Hatton National Bank closed 1.25 rupees up at 129.25 rupees.
DFCC Bank closed 40 cents up at 61.00 rupees, Sampath bank closed 2.00 rupees up at 155.00 rupees and Nations trust bank gained 1.10 rupees to close at 56.50 rupees.
Seylan Bank closed 10 cents down at 51.10 rupees and Pan Asia Banking Corporation fell 20 cents to close at 16.60 rupees.
Central Finance Company fell 50 cents to close at 84.80 rupees, Alliance Finance Company closed flat at 51.80 rupees.
Ceylinco Insurance closed 28.25 rupees up at 1,884.25 rupees and Housing Development Finance closed flat at 36.00 rupees.
Ceylon Tobacco Company closed 5.25 rupees down at 999.50 rupees while Ceylon Cold stores closed 75 cents up at 620.00 rupees and Piramal Glass Ceylon closed 20 cents up at 9.80 rupees.
Royal Ceramic Lanka closed 6.75 rupees up at 259.25 rupees, Lanka tiles gained 3.00 to close at 188.75 rupees, Lanka Walltiles closed 5.50 rupees up at 195.75 rupees.
Cargills Ceylon closed 2.00 rupees up at 240.00 rupees, Distilleries Company closed flat at 20.40 and Ceylon Grain Elevators gained 50 cents to close at 120.00 rupees while Hemas Holdings closed 1.20 rupees down at 81.10 rupees.
In the hotel sector Eden Hotel Lanka closed flat at 10.50 rupees also Sigiriya Village hotel closed 1.10 rupees up at 34.00 rupees, John Keels Hotels closed flat at 10.00 and Aitken Spence Hotel holdings gained 30 cents to close at 30.30 rupees.
Carson Cumberbatch closed 1.50 rupees down at 270.00 rupees while Access Engineering gained 30 cents to close at 23.30 rupees.
Nestle Lanka closed 34.00 rupees down at 1,152.00 rupees while Aitken Spence Plc closed 80 cents up at 60.00 rupees.
Sri Lanka Telecom closed 60 cents up at 33.50 rupees, Richard Pieris and Company closed 20 cents up at 16.40 rupees and Dialog Axiata closed 10 cents up at 13.10 rupees.
Net foreign sales amounted to 177 million rupees today.
The Capital Goods Industry was the most active, gained 0.7 percent today. (Colombo/March 12/2021)
