Sri Lanka stocks end 0.58-pct higher
ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka stocks gained 0.58 percent on Wednesday with index heavy, Vallibel One, Distilleries and Ceylinco Insurance pushing the ASPI up recovering some of the losses from yesterday’s fall, Colombo Stock Exchange said.
Turnover was 2.6 billion rupees with 107 stocks gaining and 60 falling.
The Colombo benchmark All Share Price Index gained 42.65 points to close at 7,371.86.
The market reached an intraday high at 7,436.28 during mid-day trading.
The S&P SL20 index of more liquid stocks gained 0.02 percent or 0.57 points to close at 2,899.00.
LOLC Holdings fell 6.50 rupees to close at 357.50 rupees.
LOLC Finance, fell 10 cents to close at 6.50 rupees while Browns and Company gained 50 cents to close at 170.50 rupees.
Expolanka gained 50 cents to close at 41.00 rupees and Melstacorp Holdings closed 80 cents up at 48.10 rupees a share.
Vallibel One gained 3.30 rupees to close at 55.30 rupees and John Keells Holdings gained 75 cents to close at 152.00 rupees.
Hayleys Plc closed 80 cents up at 61.30 rupees with key subsidiaries Dipped Products gaining 90 cents to close at 50.10 rupees and Haycarb Plc gaining 3.15 rupees to close at 102.25 rupees.
The Kingsbury Plc closed 20 cents up at 11.20 rupees while Singer Industries Ceylon close3.40 rupees down at 94.30 rupees.
Ceylon Tobacco Company closed 3.50 rupees up at 1,060.50 rupees, Ceylon Cold stores closed 75 cents up at 640.25 rupees and Piramal Glass Ceylon closed 30 cents up at 9.80 rupees.
Royal Ceramic Lanka closed 2.50 rupees down at 278.25 rupees, Lanka tiles fell 3.00 to close at 197.00 rupees, Lanka Wall tiles closed 1.00 rupees down at 193.50 rupees.
Hatton National Bank closed 1.50 rupees down at 130.75 rupees and Commercial Bank of Ceylon closed 1.00 rupees down at 85.00 rupees.
DFCC Bank closed 30 cents up at 61.90 rupees while Sampath Bank closed 50 cents down at 154.00 rupees and Nations trust bank fell 10 cents to close at 57.50 rupees.
Seylan Bank closed 40 cents up at 50.00 rupees and Pan Asia Banking Corporation gained 10 cents to
close at 17.00 rupees.
Central Finance Company fell 80 cents to close at 90.60 rupees, Citizens Development Business Finance closed flat at 109.00 rupees while Alliance Finance Company gained 10 cents to close at 50.80 rupees.
Ceylinco Insurance closed 114.00 rupees up at 1,992.00 rupees, Housing Development Finance gained 80 cents to close at 38.00 rupees.
Cargills Ceylon closed flat at 230.25 rupees, Distilleries Company gained 70 cents to close at 20.70, Hemas Holdings closed flat at 80.40 rupees and Ceylon Grain Elevators gained 12.25 rupees to close at 135.00 rupees.
In the hotel sector Eden Hotel Lanka closed flat at 10.40 rupees also Sigiriya Village hotel closed flat at 33.10 rupees and John Keels Hotels closed 10 cents down at 10.50 while Aitken Spence Hotel holdings fell 1.00 rupee to close at 29.00 rupees.
Carson Cumberbatch closed flat at 281.00 rupees while Access Engineering gained 40 cents to close at 23.90 rupees.
Nestle Lanka closed 19.75 rupees up at 1,200.00 rupees while Aitken Spence Plc closed 2.80 rupees up at 61.60 rupees.
Sri Lanka Telecom closed 50 cents down at 34.30 rupees, Richard Pieris and Company closed 50 cents up at 16.50 rupees and Dialog Axiata closed flat at 12.70 rupees.
Net Foreign sales amounted to 380 million rupees today.
