Sri Lanka stocks end 0.62 higher

ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka stocks gained 0.62 percent Friday helped by index heavy John Keells Holdings, LB Finance Plc and LOLC Holdings, brokers said.

The Colombo benchmark All Share Price Index gained 45.81 points to close at 7,458.27.

The S&P SL20 index of more liquid stocks gained 0.59 percent or 17.86 points to close at 3,020.57.

Turnover was 3.6 billion rupees with 106 stocks gaining and 77 falling.

LOLC Holdings gained 4.25 rupees to close at 327.25 rupees contributing for the gain of ASPI and LOLC Finance closed 10 cents up at 6.30 rupees.

Browns Investment closed 10 cents up at 6.00 and Browns and Company gained 2.00 rupees to close at 179.50 rupees.

Hayleys Plc closed 2.00 rupee up at 75.90 rupees with key subsidiaries Dipped Products fell 60 cents to close at 56.20 rupees and Haycarb Plc fell 25 cents to close at 110.25 rupees.

John Keells Holdings contribued most to ASPI’s gained 2.25 rupee at 150.75 rupees a share while Vallibel One down 10 cents to close at 55.80 rupees.

The Kingsbury closed 10 cents up at 6.10 and Singer Sri Lanka closed 1.30 rupees up at 19.50 rupees.

Melstacorp Holdings closed 10 cents down at 49.20 rupees a share and Expolanka holdings gained 50 cents to close at 49.70 rupees.

Commercial Bank of Ceylon closed 40 cents up at 86.10 rupees, Hatton National Bank closed 50 cents up at 132.75 rupees.

DFCC Bank closed flat at 59.90 rupees, and Nations Trust Bank closed 50 cents up at 55.00 rupees.

Seylan Bank closed 10 cents down at 49.90 rupees and Pan Asia Banking Corporation closed 20 cents down at 15.10 rupees.

Housing Development Finance closed 70 cents down at 35.30 rupees while Central Finance Company closed 3.30 rupees up at 87.20 rupees.

Royal Ceramic Lanka closed 5.50 rupees up at 328.25 rupees, Lanka Walltiles gained 50 cents to close at 50.00 rupees while Lanka tiles fell 20 cents down at 47.50 rupees.

Bukit Darah closed 4.75 rupees up at 312.00 rupees, Hemas Holdings closed 1.80 rupees up at 84.80 rupees, Ceylon Grain Elevators closed 1.00 rupees down at 137.00 rupees and Distilleries Company closed flat at 20.20 rupees.

In the hotel sector Eden Hotel Lanka closed flat at 10.10 rupees while Aitken Spence Hotel holdings closed 10 cents down at 31.70 rupees and John Keels Hotels closed 30 cents up at 10.00.

Carson Cumberbatch closed 1.00 up at 276.00 rupees and Access Engineering closed 60 cents up at 24.50 rupees.

Nestle Lanka closed 9.25 rupees up at 1,061.50 rupees while Aitken Spence Plc closed 1.50 rupees up at 58.80 rupees.

Sri Lanka Telecom closed 80 cents up at 35.70 rupees, Dialog Axiata closed flat at 13.00 rupees and Richard Pieris and Company closed 20 cents up at 17.50 rupees.

Ceylon Tobacco Company closed 2.50 rupees up at 983.25 rupees, Ceylon Cold stores closed 75 cent at 612.50 rupees and Piramal Glass Ceylon closed flat at 11.20 rupees.

Watawala Plantation closed 20 cents down 52.90 rupees.

Namunukula Plantations closed flat to 169.25 rupees.

Kegalle Plantation gain 1.00 rupees to close at 96.30 rupees a share and Agalawatte Plantation fell 1.50 rupee to trade at 26.00 rupees while Elpitiya Plantation fell 20 cents to close at 42.00 rupees.

Mahaweli Coconut Plantation gained 1.20 rupees to trade at 30.30 rupees.

The Beverage and the Material sector making a joint contribution of 71%. (Colombo/April 09/2021)
