Sri Lanka stocks end 1.20-pct lower on selling pressure
ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka stocks fell 1.20 percent on Monday due to heavy selling seen in LOLC Holdings, John Keells Holdings and Vallibel One pushing the ASPI down, brokers said.
Turnover was 812 million rupees with 32 stocks gaining and 128 falling.
The Colombo benchmark All Share Price Index fell 87.07 points to close at 7,160.41.
The market reached an intraday high at 7,274.42 during the first hour into trading but continued to fell throughout the day before picking up to close marginally high.
The S&P SL20 index of more liquid stocks fell 1.06 percent or 30.63 points to close at 2,862.81.
LOLC Holdings fell 10.75 rupees to close at 304.75 rupees contributing most for the ASPI fall.
LOLC Finance, fell 10 cents to close at 6.00 rupees, Browns and Company fell 6.75 rupees to close at 161.25 rupees and Browns Investment closed 10 cents down at 5.20 rupees.
Vallibel One fell 2.00 rupees to close at 50.00 rupees and John Keells Holdings fell 1.75 rupees to close at 148.00 rupees.
Hayleys Plc closed 2.00 rupees down at 58.70 rupees with key subsidiaries Dipped Products falling 2.30 rupees to close at 48.70 rupees and Haycarb Plc falling 2.80 rupees to close at 98.20 rupees.
The Kingsbury fell 10 cents to close at 6.10 rupees while Singer Industries gained 1.60 rupees a share, Singer Sri Lanka gained 30 cents to close at 17.70 rupees.
Expolanka fell 1.00 rupees to close at 46.60 rupees and Melstacorp Holdings closed 1.10 rupees down at 46.30 rupees a share.
Commercial Bank of Ceylon closed 80 cents up at 87.70 rupees and Hatton National Bank closed 75 cents up at 130.00 rupees.
DFCC Bank closed 1.00 rupees down at 60.00 rupees, Sampath bank closed 75 cents down at 154.25 rupees and Nations trust bank fell 70 cents to close at 55.80 rupees.
Seylan Bank closed 80 cents up at 51.90 rupees and Pan Asia Banking Corporation fell 60 cents to close at 16.00 rupees.
Central Finance Company fell 70 cents to close at 84.10 rupees, Citizens Development Business Finance close 25 cents down at 113.50 rupees and Housing Development Finance fell 2.00 rupees to close at 34.00 rupees.
Ceylon Tobacco Company closed flat at 1,000.00 rupees and Ceylon Cold stores closed 21.50 rupees up at 641.50 rupees while Piramal Glass Ceylon closed 10 cents down at 9.70 rupees.
Royal Ceramic Lanka closed 6.00 rupees down at 253.25 rupees, Lanka tiles fell 2.00 to close at 186.75 rupees, Lanka Walltiles closed 4.75 rupees at 191.00 rupees.
Cargills Ceylon closed 5.00 rupees down at 235.00 rupees, Distilleries Company fell 40 cents to close at 20.00 rupees, Hemas Holdings closed 1.10 rupees down at 80.00 rupees and Ceylon Grain Elevators fell 2.00 rupees to close at 118.00 rupees.
In the hotel sector Eden Hotel Lanka closed 10 cents down at 10.40 rupees, Sigiriya Village hotel closed flat at 34.00 rupees, John Keels Hotels closed 50 cents down at 9.50 and Aitken Spence Hotel holdings fell 30 cents to close at 30.00 rupees.
Carson Cumberbatch closed flat at 271.50 rupees while Access Engineering fell 30 cents to close at 23.00 rupees.
Nestle Lanka closed flat at 1,155.00 rupees and Aitken Spence Plc closed 1.10 rupees down at 58.90 rupees.
Sri Lanka Telecom closed 70 cents down at 32.80 rupees, Richard Pieris and Company closed 10 cents down at 16.30 rupees and Dialog Axiata closed flat at 13.10 rupees.
The Capital Goods Industry was the most active, fell 1.8 percent today. (Colombo/March 15/2021)
