Sri Lanka stocks end 1.34-pct higher

ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka stocks gained 1.34 percent on Monday, the ASPI was pushed up by index heavy Expolanka Holdings, Hayleys Plc and Distilleries, a broker said.

The Colombo benchmark All Share Price Index gained a 100.01 points to close at 7,558.28.

The S&P SL20 index of more liquid stocks gained 1.46 percent or 44.08 points to close at 2,064.65.

Turnover was 3.4 billion rupees with 130 stocks gaining and 45 falling.

Expolanka Holdings gained 2.60 rupees to close at 52.30 rupees contributing most for the ASPI gain and Melstacorp Holdings closed 2.10 rupees up at 51.30 rupees a share.

Hayleys Plc closed 5.50 rupees up at 81.40 rupees with key subsidiaries Dipped Products gaining 2.50 rupees to close at 58.70 rupees and Haycarb Plc gaining 2.25 rupees to close at 112.50 rupees.

John Keells Holdings closed 25 cents up at 151.00 rupees a share and Vallibel One gained 2.70 to close at 58.50 rupees.

The Kingsbury closed 20 cents up at 6.30 and Singer Sri Lanka closed 1.30 rupees up at 20.30 rupees.

LOLC Holdings gained 5.25 rupees to close at 332.50 rupees and LOLC Finance closed 10 cents up at 6.40 rupees.

Browns Investment closed 20 cents up at 6.20 and Browns and Company gained 2.50 rupees to close at 182.00 rupees.

Commercial Bank of Ceylon closed 90 cents up at 87.00 rupees, Hatton National Bank closed 25 cents up at 133.00 rupees.

DFCC Bank closed 10 cents up at 60.00 rupees while Nations Trust Bank closed 90 cents down at 54.10 rupees.

Seylan Bank closed 40 cents down at 49.50 rupees and Pan Asia Banking Corporation closed 1.00 rupee up at 16.10 rupees.

Housing Development Finance closed 70 cents up at 36.00 rupees and Central Finance Company closed 3.20 rupees up at 90.40 rupees.

Royal Ceramic Lanka closed 26.75 rupees up at 355.00 rupees, Lanka Walltiles gained 2.30 rupees to close at 52.30 rupees while Lanka tiles gain 2.20 rupees up at 49.70 rupees.

Bukit Darah closed 9.00 rupees down at 303.00 rupees while Hemas Holdings closed 1.30 rupees up at 86.10 rupees, Ceylon Grain Elevators closed 5.75 rupees up at 142.75 rupees and Distilleries Company closed 70 cents up at 20.90 rupees.

In the hotel sector Eden Hotel Lanka closed 10 cents up at 10.20 rupees, Aitken Spence Hotel Holdings closed 20 cents up at 31.90 rupees and John Keels Hotels closed 25 cents up at 151.00.

Access Engineering closed 10 cents down at 24.40 rupees.

Nestle Lanka closed 2.75 rupees up at 1,064.25 rupees and Aitken Spence Plc closed 20 cents up at 59.00 rupees.

Sri Lanka Telecom closed flat at 35.70 rupees, Dialog Axiata closed10 cents up at 13.10 rupees and Richard Pieris and Company closed 10 cents up at 17.40 rupees.

Ceylon Tobacco Company closed 6.75 rupees up at 990.00 rupees, Ceylon Cold stores closed 12.50 rupees down at 600.00 rupees and Piramal Glass Ceylon closed flat at 11.20 rupees.

Watawala Plantation fell 20 cents to close at 52.70 rupees.

Namunukula Plantations closed flat at 169.00 rupees.

Kegalle Plantation gained 3.30 rupees to close at 99.60 rupees a share while Agalawatte Plantation fell 90 cents to trade at 25.10 rupees and Elpitiya Plantation fell 1.10 rupees to close at 40.90 rupees.

Mahaweli Coconut Plantation fell 30 cents to trade at 30.00 rupees.

The Capital Goods Industry was the most active, gained 2.1 percent today. (Colombo/April 12/2021)
