Sri Lanka stocks end 1.62-pct lower on continued selling pressure

ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka stocks fell 1.62 per cent on Thursday on selling pressure seen in LOLC Holdings, Expolanka Holdings and Browns Investment brokers said.

Turnover was 1.2 billion rupees with 20 stocks gaining and 144 falling.

The Colombo benchmark All Share Price Index fell 113.80 points to close at plunging below 6,930.76.

The market opened at 7,000 levels but immediately plunged and continued to slip to hit the intraday lowest 6,913 at the close.

The S&P SL20 index of more liquid stocks fell 1.50 per cent or 42.14 points to close at 2,774.78.

LOLC Holdings fell 9.25 rupees to close at 286.75 rupees contributing most for the ASPI fall and LOLC Development Finance closed flat at 57.20 rupees.

LOLC Finance closed 20 cents down at 5.70 rupees, Browns and Company fell 7.75 rupees to close at 150.50 rupees and Browns Investment closed 20 cents down at 4.90 rupees.

Vallibel One fell 1.90 rupees to close at 46.10 rupees while John Keells Holdings fell 1.00 rupee to close at 148.00 rupees.

Hayleys Plc closed 1.40 rupees down at 53.60 rupees with key subsidiaries Dipped Products falling 2.30 rupees to close at 43.90 rupees and Haycarb Plc falling 3.90 rupees to close at 90.60 rupees.

The Kingsbury fell 10 cent to close at 5.60 rupees and Singer Sri Lanka closed 50 cents at 17.00 rupees while Singer Industries fell 2.90 rupees to close at 45.10 rupees.





Expolanka fell 2.00 rupees to close at 42.70 rupees and Melstacorp Holdings closed 2.20 cents down at 42.80 rupees a share.

Commercial Bank of Ceylon closed 20 cents down at 85.80 rupees and Hatton National Bank closed 1.25 rupee down at 126.75 rupees.

DFCC Bank closed flat at 59.60 rupees, Sampath bank did not record any transactions and Nations trust bank fell 60 cents to close at 53.90 rupees.

Seylan Bank closed 1.20 rupees up at 50.90 rupees and Pan Asia Banking Corporation closed 50 cents down at 15.10 rupees.

Central Finance Company fell 1.80 rupees to close at 81.00 rupees and Citizens Development Business fell 50 cents to close at 106.00 rupees while Housing Development Finance fell 1.60 rupees to close at 32.00 rupees.

Ceylon Tobacco Company closed 4.00 rupees down at 994.25 rupees, Ceylon Cold stores gained 2.25 at 620.00 rupees and Piramal Glass Ceylon 50 cents down at 9.40 rupees.

Royal Ceramic Lanka closed 6.75 rupees down at 235.50 rupees, Lanka tiles fell 13.50 rupees to close at 166.75 rupees, Lanka Walltiles closed 6.25 rupees at 174.50 rupees.

Cargills Ceylon closed flat at 238.50 rupees while Distilleries Company fell 30 cents to close at 19.50 rupees, Hemas Holdings closed 10 cents down at 79.90 rupees and Ceylon Grain Elevators fell 5.50 rupees to close at 108.00 rupees.

In the hotel sector, Eden Hotel Lanka closed flat at 10.00 rupees, Sigiriya Village hotel closed 10 cents up at 33.00 rupees, John Keels Hotels closed flat at 9.50 while Aitken Spence Hotel holdings fell 1.00 rupees to close at 29.00 rupees.

Carson Cumberbatch up 5.00 rupees to close at 275.00 rupees while Access Engineering fell 50 cents to close at 21.90 rupees.

Nestle Lanka closed flat at 1,140.00 rupees and Aitken Spence Plc closed 3.10 rupees down at 51.20 rupees.

Sri Lanka Telecom closed 50 cents down at 32.10 rupees, Richard Pieris and Company closed 10 cents up at 15.60 rupees and Dialog Axiata closed 20 cents down at 12.90 rupees.

The Transportation Industry was the most active. (Colombo/March 18/2021)
