Sri Lanka stocks end 1.82-pct higher

ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka stocks closed 1.82 per cent higher on Monday with ASPI being pushed up by LOLC Holdings, Expolanka and John Keells Holdings, brokers said.

The Colombo benchmark All Share Price Index gained 131.26 points to close at 7,359.49.

The S&P SL20 index of more liquid stocks gained 2.82 per cent or 80.93 points to close at 2,950.45.

Turnover was 2.7 billion rupees with 133 stocks gaining and 45 falling.

LOLC Holdings gained 14.50 rupees to close at 340.25 rupees, Brown and Company gain 7.75 rupees to close at 192.50 rupees a share and Browns Investment closed 10 cents up at 6.90 rupees a share.

LOLC Finance closed 20 cents up at 6.70 rupees.

Expolanka Holdings closed 2.50 rupees up at 47.00 rupees a share and Melstacorp Holdings closed 60 cents up at 46.90 rupees a share.

John Keells Holdings closed 3.50 rupees up at 139.25 rupees a share and Vallibel One gained 2.00 rupees to close at 56.10 rupees a share.

Hayleys Plc closed 1.60 rupees up at 80.40 rupees with key subsidiaries Dipped Products gained 1.30 rupees to close at 56.90 rupees and Haycarb Plc gain 4.00 rupees to close at 107.00 rupees.

Kingsbury closed 10 cents up at 6.10 and Singer Sri Lanka closed 1.30 rupees up at 20.00 rupees.

Housing Development Finance closed 80 cents down at 34.20 rupees and Central Finance Company closed 1.70 rupees up at 81.80 rupees.

Commercial Bank of Ceylon closed 1.90 rupees up at 83.80 rupees.

Hatton National Bank closed 25 cents up at 128.00 rupees a share while Sampath Bank closed 1.70 rupees up at 51.90 rupees a share

DFCC Bank closed 30 cents up at 58.00 rupees and Nations Trust Bank closed 60 cents up at 56.50 rupees.

Seylan Bank closed 1.10 rupees up at 50.30 rupees and Pan Asia Banking Corporation closed 10 cents up at 15.70 rupees.

Nestle Lanka closed 47.75 rupees down at 1,050.50 rupees contributing most for ASPI’ gain.

Ceylon Tobacco Company PLC closed flat at 990.00 rupees a share, Ceylon Cold stores closed flat at 570.00 rupees and Piramal Glass Ceylon closed 10 cents up at 11.70 rupees.

Bukit Darah closed 75 cents down at 280.00 rupees, Hemas Holdings closed 1.30 rupees up at 80.40 rupees, Ceylon Grain Elevators closed 2.00 rupees up at 130.000 rupees and Distilleries Company closed 50 cents up at 19.90 rupees a share.

Eden Hotel Lanka closed 10 cents up at 9.90 rupees in the hotel sector while Aitken Spence Hotel Holdings closed 30 cents up at 28.80 rupees and John Keels Hotels gained 10 cents to close at 9.10 rupees a share.

Access Engineering closed 30 cents up at 22.60 rupees while Carson Cumberbatch closed flat at 280.00 rupees.

Sri Lanka Telecom closed 20 cents up at 32.70 rupees, Richard Pieris and Company closed flat at 15.90 rupees and Dialog Axiata closed 20 cents up at 12.70 rupees.

Aitken Spence Plc closed 30 cents up at 49.80 rupees and Windforce Closed 50 cents up at 19.50 rupees.

Royal Ceramic Lanka gained 1.10 rupees to close at 38.10 rupees, Lanka Tiles gained 2.80 rupees to close at 51.10 rupees, Lanka Walltiles gained 1.90 rupees to close at 50.90 rupees while Lanka Ceramic closed flat at 132.00 rupees.

The Capital Goods Industry which was the most active gained 2.4 per cent. (Colombo/May 17/2021)
