Sri Lanka stocks end 1.84-pct lower
ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka stocks fell 1.84 percent on Tuesday, for the second consecutive day slumping behind the 8,000 mark, pushed down mainly by the finance sector, Colombo stock exchange said.
Colombo’s All share price index fell 1.84 percent or 149.49 points to close at 7,963.77.
The S&P SL20 index of more liquid stocks fell 1.78 percent or 57.54 points to close at 3,170.12.
The market turnover was 4.9 billion rupees with 34 stocks gaining and 163 falling.
LOLC Holdings of Ishara Nanayakkara fell 17.50 rupees a share to close at 422.75 rupees, contribution most for the fall of the ASPI and LOLC Finance, a part of LOLC, fell 20 cents to close at 6.20 rupees.
Dhammika Perera’s Vallibel One fell 4.90 rupees to close at 61.50 rupees a share and Browns investments fell 30 cents to close at 6.00 rupees.
Royal Ceramic Lanka closed 9.50 rupees down at 311.75 rupees, Lanka tiles fell 11.50 to close at 224.25 rupees and Lanka Walltiles closed 9.50 rupees down at 229.75 rupees while Lanka Ceramic closed 2.50 rupees up at 165.00 rupees.
John Keells Holdings fell 75 cents to close at 154.00 rupees and Brown and Company fell 3.75 rupees to close at 186.50 rupees.
Hatton National Bank closed 2.75 rupees down at 142.25 rupees, Commercial Bank of Ceylon fell 2.20 rupees to close at 87.80 rupees, DFCC Bank closed 80 cents down at 64.40 rupees and Sampath bank closed 1.75 rupees down at 167.50 rupees.
Nations trust bank fell 30 cents to close at 60.70 rupees and Seylan Bank fell 1.30 rupees to close at 54.70 rupees and Pan Asia Banking Corporation fell 20 cents to close at 17.50 rupees.
Central Finance Company fell 1.50 cents to close at 114.00 rupees, Alliance Finance Company fell 3.40 rupees to close at 51.20 rupees while Citizens Development Business Finance gained 6.75 rupees to close at 120.50 rupees.
Sinhaputhra Finance closed 10 cents down at 7.80 rupees a share and Softlogic finance closed flat at 11.30 rupees a share and Housing Development Finance fell 50 cents to close at 41.60 rupees.
Cargills Ceylon fell 2.50 rupees a share to close at 232.25 rupees, Hemas Holdings fell 1.00 rupees to 90.00 rupees, Distilleries Company fell 10 cents to close at 20.40 rupees and Melstacorp fell 1.90 rupees a share to close at 57.60 rupees while Ceylon Grain Elevators gained 1.00 rupees to close at 160.25 rupees.
In the hotel sector Eden Hotel Lanka fell 20 cents to close at 11.70 rupees while Sigiriya Village hotel closed flat at 38.50 rupees, John Keels Hotels closed flat at 11.10 rupees a share and Aitken Spence Hotel holdings fell 50 cents to close at 33.30 rupees.
Expolanka Holdings closed 1.80 rupees down at 51.70 rupees a share.
Hayleys Plc, fell 29.50 rupees to close at 746.50 rupees a share with key subsidiaries Dipped Products falling 15.50 rupees to close at 718.50 rupees and Haycarb Plc falling 91.25 rupees to close at 1,499.00 rupees.
The Kingsbury Plc closed 50 cents down at 12.70 rupees while Unisyst Engineering closed 10 cents down at 16.80 rupees, Singer Industries Ceylon closed 16.50 rupees down at 92.50 rupees and Hayleys Fabrics fell 50 cents to close at 35.40 rupees a share.
Ceylon Tobacco Company gained 1.75 rupees to close at 1,105.00 rupees and Piramal Class Ceylon closed flat at 9.60 rupees while Ceylon Cold stores closed 10.75 rupees down at 689.00 rupees.
Carson Cumberbatch gained 4.25 rupees to close at 308.25 rupees while Access Engineering fell 50 cents to close at 25.60 rupees.
Nestle Lanka closed 20.75 rupees up at 1,189.50 rupees while Aitken Spence Plc closed 2.50 rupees down at 64.80 rupees.
Sunshine Holdings fell 3.30 rupees to close at 88.00 rupees a share.
Sri Lanka Telecom closed 70 cents down at 36.90 rupees, Dialog Axiata closed 30 cents down at 12.10 rupees and Richard Pieris and Company closed 10 cents down at 14.90 rupees.
The Capital Goods Industry was the most active, fell 2.3 percent and Materials Industry which was also active fell 2.7 percent today. (Colombo/Feb09/2021)
