Sri Lanka stocks end higer

ECONOMYNEXT- Sri Lanka stocks close 0.29 percent higher on Monday, pushed up by Browns Investments, Hemas Holdings and Hayleys Plc, Colombo Stock exchange provisional Data showed.

Colombo’s All share price index gained 0.29 percent or 19.25 points to close at 6,704.89.

The main index started positive but fell to a daily low at 6,699.74 during the last hour into trading but picked up to close marginally high.

The S&P SL20 index of more liquid stocks gained 0.77 percent or 20.09 points to close at 2,619.76.

The market turnover was 1.3 billion rupees with 125 stocks gaining and 66 falling.

Browns Investments contributed most to the ASPI gain, closing 10 cents up at 4.00 rupees a share.

Hemas Holdings gained 2.20 rupees a share to close at 96.90 rupees and Hayleys Plc closed 15.50 rupees up at 422.80 rupees a share.

In the banking sector Hatton National Bank gained 1.40 rupees to close at 126.10 rupees, DFCC Bank closed 60 cents higher at 64.80 rupees, Sampath Bank closed 80 cents up at 134.60 rupees a share and Commercial Bank of Ceylon gained 1.00 rupee to close at 80.10 rupees.

In the hotel sector Eden Hotel Lanka closed 20 cents down at 11.80 rupees a share, Aitken Spence Hotel holdings fell 40 cents to close at 32.30 rupees while John Keels Hotels closed flat at 10.80 rupees a share.

Distilleries Company closed 10 cents down at 20.50 rupees, Melstacorp Plc closed 1.00 rupees down at 52.20 rupees a share while Sri Lanka telecom closed 20 cents up at 33.70 rupees a share.

John Keells Holdings close 30 cents up at 148.70 rupees while LOLC holdings closed 1.10 rupees down at 135.30 rupees a share.

Ceylon Cold Stores fell 14.00 rupees to close at 685.80 rupees while Ceylon Tobacco Company closed 2.40 rupees up at 1,018.30 rupees a share.

Expolanka Holdings closed 10 cents up at 27.30 rupees and Softlogic Holdings closed 20 cents up at 12.20 rupees.

Tokyo Cement Company gained 70 cents to close at 74.60 rupees while Piramal Glass Ceylon closed 19 cents down at 9.40 rupees a share.

Nestle Lanka fell 13.90 rupees to close at 1,250.00 rupees a share while Dialog Axiata closed 10 cents up at 12.30 rupees.

Aitken Spence Plc closed 60 cents down at 57.00 rupees while Carson Cumberbatch closed 8.40 rupees down at 273.10 rupees.

The Capital goods industry was the most active, gained 0.9 percent. (Colombo/December 28/2020)
