Sri Lanka stocks end higher

ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka stocks gained 0.40 percent at Friday’s closing on index heavy Distilleries Company, Browns Investments PLC and Carson Cumberbatch PLC, Colombo Stock Exchange provisional data showed.

Colombo’s All Share Price Index gained 0.40 percent or 24.11 points to close at 6,085.00.

The S&P SL20 index of more liquid stocks gained 0.30 percent or 7.9 points to 2,395.07.

The main index started at a daily low of 6073.69 but picked up to close marginally high on volatile trading.

The market turnover was 1.4 billion rupees with 111 stocks gaining and 62 falling.

Distilleries Company contributed most to ASPI’s gain, closing 1.10 rupees up a share to trade at 20.60 rupees.

Browns Investments PLC gained 10 cents to trade at 2.50 rupees a share and Carson Cumberbatch PLC gained 4.00 rupees to trade at 256.00 rupees a share also contributing to the ASPI gain.

Sri Lanka Telecom fell 60 cents to trade at 32.50 rupees a share, Ceylon Cold Stores closed flat at 648.00 rupees a share, Ceylon Tobacco Company fell 8.30 rupees to trade at 941.30 rupees a share.

Hatton National bank gained 10 cents to trade at 114.30 rupees, Commercial Bank of Ceylon gained 10 cents to trade at 76.10 rupees a share while Sampath Bank gained 10 cents to trade at 124.10 rupees a share.

Melstacorp Plc gained 40 cents to close at 35.30 rupees a share, Expolanka plc gained 30 cents to trade at 26.40 rupees a share while Softlogic Holdings gained 20 cents to trade at 10.70 rupees a share.

John Keells Holdings gained 30 cents a share to trade at 141.30 rupees a share while Hemas Holdings gained 40 cents to trade at 82.90 rupees a share and C T Holdings fell 1.80 rupees to trade at 162.40 rupees a share.

Hayleys PLC gained 1.60 rupees to trade at 364.00 rupees a share and Richard Pieris and Company gained 30 cents to trade at 14.70 rupees a share.

Aitken Spence Plc fell 10 cents to trade at 47.40 rupees a share and Dialog Axiata fell 10 cents to trade at 11.60 rupees a share.

The Capital goods Industry index, which was the most active, gained 0.77 percent.

The Materials Industry index which was also active gained 1.3 percent. (Colombo/November 20/2020)
