Sri Lanka stocks end higher

ECONOMYNEXT- Sri Lanka stocks close 0.18 percent higher on Tuesday’s pushed by index heavy Melstacorp Plc, Browns Investments and Ceylon Tobacco Company, Colombo Stock exchange provisional Data showed.

Colombo’s All share price index gained 0.18 percent or 12.21 points to close at 6,634.92

The main index started positive but fell to a daily low at 6,627.91 during the mid-day trading but picked up to close marginally high.

The S&P SL20 index of more liquid stocks gained 0.32 percent or 8.36 points to close at 2,588.57.

The market turnover was 5.8 billion rupees with 91 stocks gaining and 90 falling.

Melstacorp Plc contributed most to the ASPI gain, gaining 1.90 rupees a share to close at 53.00 rupees.

Browns Investments gained 10 cents a share to close at 4.00 rupees and Ceylon Tobacco Company closed 7.30 rupees higher at 1,007.50 rupees a share.

In the banking sector Hatton National Bank fell 10 cents to close at 124.00 rupees, DFCC Bank fell 10 cents to close at 64.10 rupees and Sampath Bank closed 1.50 rupees down at 130.50 rupees a share while Commercial Bank of Ceylon gained 10 rupees to close at 79.50 rupees.

In the hotel sector Eden Hotel Lanka closed flat at 12.60 rupees a share, Aitken Spence Hotel holdings gained 20 cents to close at 33.20 rupees while john keels Hotels fell 1.50 rupees to close at 147.00 rupees a share.

Distilleries Company closed flat at 20.70 rupees and Sri Lanka telecom closed 30 cents up at 33.30 rupees a share while Cargills Ceylon closed flat at 200.00 rupees a share.

Nestle Lanka Plc closed 18.60 rupees down at 1,213.60 rupees a share while LOLC holdings closed 90 cents down at 135.60 rupees a share.

Ceylon Cold Stores gained 4.50 rupees to close at 704.40 rupees and Hemas Holdings closed 20 cents up at 93.90 rupees a share.

Expolanka Holdings closed 50 cents up at 27.50 rupees a share and Softlogic Holdings closed 40 cents down at 12.30 rupees a share.

Tokyo Cement Company gained 2.50 rupees to close at 77.80 rupees while Piramal Glass Ceylon closed flat at 9.50 rupees a share.

Hayleys Plc gained 2.50 rupees to close at 388.00 rupees a share and Dialog Axiata closed 10 cents down at 12.20 rupees a share.

Aitken Spence Plc closed 1.70 rupees down at 57.60 rupees and Carson Cumberbatch closed 3.20 rupees down at 267.20 rupees.

The Food, Beverage and Tobacco industry was the most active, gained 0.5 percent. (Colombo/December 22/2020)
