Sri Lanka stocks end higher
ECONOMYNEXT- Sri Lanka stocks close 0.85 percent higher on Thursday, pushed up by John Keells Holdings, Ceylon Tobacco Company and Nestle Lanka, Colombo Stock exchange provisional Data showed.
Colombo’s All share price index gained 0.85 percent or 56.62 points to close at 6,685.64
The main index started positive and continued to increase throughout the day on volatile trading.
The S&P SL20 index of more liquid stocks gained 0.96 percent or 56.66 points to close at 2,599.39.
The market turnover was 2.7 billion rupees with 133 stocks gaining and 59 falling.
John Keells Holdings contributed most to the ASPI gain, closing 2.30 rupees up at 148.40 rupees a share.
Ceylon Tobacco Company gained 13.80 rupees a share to close at 1,015.90 rupees and Nestle Lanka closed 35.90 rupees up at 1,263.90 rupees a share.
In the banking sector Hatton National Bank gained 60 cents to close at 124.70 rupees, DFCC Bank closed 10 cents higher at 64.20 rupees, Sampath Bank closed 2.50 rupees up at 133.80 rupees a share and Commercial Bank of Ceylon gained 10 cents to close at 79.10 rupees.
In the hotel sector Eden Hotel Lanka closed 20 cents down at 12.00 rupees a share, Aitken Spence Hotel holdings fell 30 cents to close at 32.70 rupees while john keels Hotels closed flat at 10.80 rupees a share.
Distilleries Company closed 10 cents up at 20.60 rupees, Sri Lanka telecom closed 10 cents up at 33.50 rupees a share and Melstacorp Plc closed 1.30 rupees up at 53.20 rupees a share.
Brown Investments close 10 cents down at 3.90 rupees a share while its parent company LOLC holdings closed 1.40 rupees up at 136.40 rupees a share.
Ceylon Cold Stores fell 20 cents to close at 699.20 rupees while Hemas holdings closed 1.20 rupees up at 94.70 rupees a share.
Expolanka Holdings closed 20 cents up at 27.20 rupees while Softlogic Holdings closed 50 cents down at 12.00 rupees.
Tokyo Cement Company 80 cents to close at 73.90 rupees while Piramal Glass Ceylon closed flat at 9.40 rupees a share.
Hayleys Plc gained 21.30 rupees to close at 407.30 rupees a share and Dialog Axiata closed 10 cents up at 12.20 rupees.
Aitken Spence Plc closed 60 cents up at 57.60 rupees while Carson Cumberbatch closed 3.70 rupees up at 281.50 rupees.
The Capital goods industry was the most active, gained 1.04 percent. (Colombo/December 24/2020)
