ECONOMYNEXT- Sri Lanka stocks close 0.64 percent higher on Wednesday, pushed up by Ceylinco Insurance, ExpoLanka and Hemas Holdings, Colombo Stock exchange provisional Data showed.
Colombo’s All share price index gained 0.64 percent or 43.12 points to close at 6,748.01.
The main index started positive but fell to a daily low at 6,724.35 during the last hour into trading but picked up to close marginally high on volatile trading.
The S&P SL20 index of more liquid stocks gained 0.80 percent or 20.86 points to close at 2,635.70.
The market turnover was 3.7 billion rupees with 91 stocks gaining and 97 falling.
Ceylinco Insurance contributed most to the ASPI gain, closing 139.20 rupees up at 2,000.10 rupees a share.
Expolanka Holdings gained 1.20 rupees a share to close at 28.50 rupees and Hemas Holdings closed 3.90 rupees up at 100.80 rupees a share.
In the banking sector Hatton National Bank fell 50 cents to close at 125.60 rupees, Sampath Bank closed 10 cents down at 134.50 rupees a share while Commercial Bank of Ceylon gained 40 cents to close at 80.50 rupees and DFCC Bank closed 90 cents higher at 65.70 rupees.
In the hotel sector Eden Hotel Lanka closed 10 cents down at 10.70 rupees a share while Aitken Spence Hotel holdings gained 70 cents to close at 33.00 rupees and John Keels Hotels closed 40 cents up at 11.20 rupees a share.
Distilleries Company closed flat at 20.50 rupees and Melstacorp Plc closed 30 cents down at 51.90 rupees a share while Sri Lanka telecom closed 10 cents up at 33.80 rupees a share.
John Keells Holdings closed 1.20 rupees up at 149.90 rupees while browns Investments closed 10 cents up at 4.10 rupees a share and it’s parent company LOLC holdings closed 70 cents up at 136.00 rupees a share.
Ceylon Cold Stores gained 4.20 rupees to close at 690.00 rupees and Ceylon Tobacco Company closed 10.60 rupees up at 1,028.90 rupees a share.
Hayles Plc closed 4.30 rupees down at 418.50 rupees and Softlogic Holdings closed 20 cents down at 12.00 rupees.
Tokyo Cement Company fell 10 cents to close at 74.50 rupees while Piramal Glass Ceylon closed 10 cents up at 9.40 rupees a share.
Nestle Lanka gained 8.40 rupees to close at 1,258.40 rupees a share and Dialog Axiata closed 10 cents up at 12.40 rupees.
Aitken Spence Plc closed 60 cents up at 57.60 rupees and Carson Cumberbatch closed 8.00 rupees up at 281.10 rupees.
The Capital goods industry was the most active, gained 0.9 percent. (Colombo/December 30/2020)
