Sri Lanka stocks end higher

ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka stock market closed 0.87 percent higher on Thursday, pushed up by index heavy Browns Investments, LOLC Holdings and Sri Lanka Telecom Colombo Stock Exchange Provisional Data showed.

Colombo’s All share price index gained 61.08 points to close at 7,097.84.

The S&P SL20 index of more liquid stocks fell 0.25 percent or 6.84 points to close at 2,696.35.

The market turnover was 9.1 billion rupees with 74 stocks gaining and 123 falling.

Browns Investments contributed most to the ASPI gain, closing 1.10 rupees up at 6.80 rupees a share and its parent company LOLC Holdings gained 8.40 rupees to close at 155.10 rupees a share.

Sri Lanka Telecom gained 2.20 rupees to close at 36.90 rupees a share also contributing to the ASPI.

In the banking sector Hatton National Bank closed flat at 1289.50 rupees, Sampath Bank closed 40 cents down at 141.30 rupees a share, Commercial Bank of Ceylon fell 30 cents to close at 82.70 rupees while DFCC Bank closed 10 cents down at 65.00 rupees.

In the hotel sector Eden Hotel Lanka closed 80 cents down at 11.00 rupees a share, Aitken Spence Hotel holdings fell 30 cents to close at 34.00 rupees, John Keels Hotels closed flat at 11.00 rupees a share and Sigiriya Village hotel closed 30 cents down at 35.70.

Distilleries Company closed flat at 21.50 rupees and Melstacorp Plc closed 60 cents down at 53.10 rupees a share while Expolanka holdings closed 50 cents down at 31.00 rupees a share.

John Keells Holdings closed 1.30 rupees down at 148.50 rupees a share.





Ceylon Tobacco Company gained 12.50 rupees to close at 1,133.00 rupees while Ceylon Cold stores closed 20 cents up at 704.90 rupees a share.

Hayles Plc closed 8.10 rupees down at 417.90 rupees while Softlogic Holdings closed 10 cents up at 13.50 rupees.

Tokyo Cement Company fell 1.20 rupees to close at 77.30 rupees while Piramal Glass Ceylon closed 10 cents up at 9.80 rupees a share.

Nestle Lanka closed flat at 1,360.00 rupees and Dialog Axiata closed 10 cents down at 12.60 rupees.

Aitken Spence Plc closed 20 cents down at 57.70 rupees while Carson Cumberbatch closed 1.10 rupees up at 284.60 rupees.

Dipped products fell 4.70 rupees to close at 340.60 rupees a share while Haycarb fell 6.00 rupees to close at 572.10 rupees.

Lanka Ceramic closed 10 cents up at 137.10 rupees a share while Royal Ceramic Lanka gained 5.90 rupees to close at 195.00 rupees a share.

Net foreign sales was amounted to 297 million rupees.

The Food, Beverage and Tobacco industry was the most active, gained 1.8 percent. (Colombo/January 07/2021)
