ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka stocks closed 0.93 per cent higher on Thursday, with ASPI being pushed up by Nestle Lanka, Ceylon Tobacco Company and Browns Investments, brokers said.
The Colombo benchmark All Share Price Index gained 66.46 points to close at 7,228.23.
The S&P SL20 index of more liquid stocks gained 0.85 per cent or 24.22 points to close at 2,874.65.
Turnover was 1.2 billion rupees with 112 stocks gaining and 49 falling.
Nestle Lanka closed 77.75 rupees up at 1,098.25 rupees contributing most for ASPI’ gain.
Ceylon Tobacco Company PLC closed 20.00 rupees up at 990.00 rupees a share, Ceylon Cold stores closed 75 cents up at 570.00 rupees and Piramal Glass Ceylon closed 20 cents up at 11.60 rupees.
LOLC Holdings gained 5.50 rupees to close at 325.75 rupees, Brown and Company gain 4.50 rupees to close at 184.75 rupees a share and Browns Investment closed 20 cents up at 6.80 rupees a share.
LOLC Finance closed 10 cents up at 6.50 rupees.
Housing Development Finance closed flat at 35.00 rupees and Central Finance Company closed flat at 80.10 rupees.
Commercial Bank of Ceylon closed 1.30 rupees up at 81.90 rupees.
Hatton National Bank closed 25 cents up at 127.75 rupees a share while Sampath Bank closed flat at 50.20 rupees a share
DFCC Bank closed 20 cents up at 57.70 rupees and Nations Trust Bank closed 2.30 rupees up at 55.90 rupees.
Seylan Bank closed 20 cents up at 49.20 rupees and Pan Asia Banking Corporation closed 10 cents up at 15.60 rupees.
John Keells Holdings closed 25 cents down at 135.75 rupees a share and Vallibel One fell 20 cents to close at 54.10 rupees a share.
Hayleys Plc closed 1.00 rupee up at 78.80 rupees with key subsidiaries Dipped Products gained 1.00 rupees to close at 55.40 rupees and Haycarb Plc gain 50 cents to close at 103.00 rupees.
The Kingsbury closed 20 cents down at 6.00 and Singer Sri Lanka closed 40 cents up at 18.70 rupees.
Expolanka Holdings closed 30 cents up at 44.50 rupees a share and Melstacorp Holdings closed 20 cents down at 46.30 rupees a share.
Bukit Darah closed 8.75 rupees up at 280.75 rupees, Hemas Holdings closed 40 cents down at 79.10 rupees, Ceylon Grain Elevators closed 25 cents down at 128.000 rupees and Distilleries Company closed 10 cents down at 19.40 rupees a share.
In the hotel sector, Eden Hotel Lanka closed 20 cents up at 10.00 rupees while Aitken Spence Hotel Holdings closed 1.10 rupees up at 28.50 rupees and John Keels Hotels fell 10 cents to close at 9.00 rupees a share.
Access Engineering closed 30 cents up at 22.30 rupees while Carson Cumberbatch closed 4.75 rupees up at 280.00 rupees.
Sri Lanka Telecom closed flat at 32.50 rupees, Richard Pieris and Company closed 30 cents up at 15.90 rupees and Dialog Axiata also closed flat at 12.50 rupees.
Aitken Spence Plc closed 60 cents up at 49.50 rupees and Windforce Closed 20 cents up at 19.00 rupees.
Royal Ceramic Lanka gained 20 cents to close at 37.00 rupees, Lanka Tiles gained 30 cents to close at 48.30 rupees, Lanka Walltiles gained 10 cents to close at 49.00 rupees while Lanka Ceramic closed flat at 132.00 rupees.
