Sri Lanka stocks end lower
ECONOMYNEXT- Sri Lanka’s stocks closed 0.50 per cent lower on Tuesday, on Carson Cumberbatch PLC, Bukit Darah PLC and John Keells Holdings, provisional data showed.
The All Share Price Index (ASPI) at the Colombo stock exchange closed 30.06 points down at 5,998.14.
The main index started positive but fell to a daily low at 5,937.82 in the opening of trading but picked up and continued to increase throughout the day on volatile trading to close marginally high.
The more liquid S&P SL20 Index closed 0.65 per cent or 16.11 points down at 2,479.61.
The market turnover was 163 million rupees, while 72 stocks gained and 103 fell.
Index-heavy Carson Cumberbatch PLC contributed most to the ASPI fall, closing 36.30 rupees down at 328.40 rupees a share.
Bukit Darah PLC closed 27.50 rupees down at 478.20 rupees a share and John Keells Holdings closed 1.50 rupees down at 135.90 rupees a share.
A 634.07 million rupees crossing (negotiated trade) was seen in Hatton National Bank at 125.00 rupees a share and the stock closed at 127.10 rupees a share.
A 22 million rupee worth crossing was seen in Commercial Bank of Ceylon at 80.00 rupees a share and the stock closed at 80.00 rupees a share.
The Bank industry index, which was the most active, fell 0.51 per cent.
The Food, Beverage and Tobacco index, which was also active, grew 6.31 per cent.
