Sri Lanka stocks end slightly higher

ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka stocks closed 0.26 per cent higher on Wednesday, with index heavy Ceylinco Insurance, John Keells Holdings and Melstacorp Plc pushing ASPI up, brokers said.

The Colombo benchmark All Share Price Index gained 18.39 points to close at 7,161.77.

The S&P SL20 index of more liquid stocks gained 0.25 per cent or 7.03 points to close at 2,850.43.

Turnover was 1.5 billion rupees with 80 stocks gaining and 66 falling.

Ceylinco Insurance gained 86.25 rupees to close at 1,938 rupees contributing most for ASPI’ gain.

Housing Development Finance closed flat at 35.00 rupees and Central Finance Company closed 10 cents up at 80.10 rupees.

Commercial Bank of Ceylon closed flat at 80.60 rupees.

Hatton National Bank closed 75 cents down at 127.50 rupees a share while Sampath Bank closed 50 cents up at 50.20 rupees a share.

DFCC Bank closed 40 cents down at 57.50 rupees and Nations Trust Bank closed flat at 53.60 rupees.

Seylan Bank closed 60 cents down at 49.00 rupees and Pan Asia Banking Corporation closed flat at 15.50 rupees.

John Keells Holdings closed 1.25 rupees up at 136.00 rupees a share and Vallibel One gain40 cents to close at 54.30 rupees a share.

Hayleys Plc closed 20 cents down at 77.80 rupees with key subsidiaries Dipped Products falling 10 cents to close at 54.60 rupees and Haycarb Plc gain 25 cents to close at 102.50 rupees.

The Kingsbury closed 30 cents up at 6.20 and Singer Sri Lanka closed flat at 18.30 rupees.

Expolanka Holdings closed flat at 44.20 rupees a share and Melstacorp Holdings closed 1.20 rupees up at 46.50 rupees a share.

LOLC Holdings gained 1.50 rupees to close at 320.25 rupees, Brown and Company gain 75 cents to close at 180.25 rupees a share and Browns Investment closed flat at 6.60 rupees a share.

LOLC Finance closed flat at 6.40 rupees.

Bukit Darah closed 6.50 rupees down at 272.00 rupees, Hemas Holdings closed 40 cents down at 79.50 rupees, Ceylon Grain Elevators closed 2.50 rupees up at 128.25 rupees and Distilleries Company closed 10 cents down at 19.50 rupees a share.

In the hotel sector, Eden Hotel Lanka closed 20 cents up at 9.80 rupees while Aitken Spence Hotel Holdings closed 10 cents down at 27.40 rupees and John Keels Hotels fell 10 cents to close at 9.10 rupees a share.

Access Engineering closed 10 cents up at 22.60 rupees while Carson Cumberbatch closed flat at 275.25 rupees.

Nestle Lanka closed 10.50 rupees up at 1,020.50 rupees and Aitken Spence Plc closed 50 cents down at 48.90 rupees.

Sri Lanka Telecom closed 30 cents down at 32.50 rupees, Richard Pieris and Company closed flat at 15.60 rupees and Dialog Axiata also closed 10 cents down at 12.50 rupees.

Piramal Glass Ceylon closed 40 cents down at 11.40 rupees, Ceylon Cold stores closed 75 cents down at 569.25 rupees and Ceylon Tobacco Company PLC closed flat at 970.00 rupees a share.

Windforce Closed 60 cents up at 18.80 rupees.

Royal Ceramic Lanka gained 40 cents to close at 36.80 rupees, Lanka Tiles gained 90 cents to close at 48.00 rupees, Lanka Walltiles gained 90 cents to close at 48.90 rupees while Lanka Ceramic closed flat at 130.00 rupees.

Net foreign sales were 119 million rupees.

The Capital goods Industry which was the most active gained 0.52 percent. (Colombo/May 12/2021)
