Sri Lanka stocks fall on Distilleries, Carson and Dialog
ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka stocks closed 0.10 percent lower on Friday, dragged down by Food, Beverage & Tobacco Industry index and generated 417 million rupees in turnover, provisional data showed.
The market was volatile throughout the day.
The All Share Price Index (ASPI) index tumbled towards mid-day hitting an all-day low of 5,941.48 before reaching a high of 5,954.90.
The ASPI closed 5.74 points down at 5,942.53 and the S&P SL20 Index of most liquid stocks closed 0.18 percent or 5.00 points down at 2,834.56.
A volume of 18,451,532 shares was transacted in total for the day.
Meanwhile, 58 stocks gained and 61 fell.
A 51.02 million rupee negotiated trade (crossing) was seen in John Keells Holdings at 160.90 rupees a share and the stock closed at 161.50 rupees a share.
Distilleries Company stocks closed 40 cents or 2.22 percent down at 17.60 rupees a share contributing most to the ASPI’s fall.
Dialog Axiata closed 20 cents or 1.57 percent lower at 12.50 rupees a share while Carson Cumberbatch stocks fell 3.70 rupees or 1.95 percent to close at 186.30 rupees a share also contributing to the ASPI’s decline.
