Sri Lanka stocks steady in early trading
ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka stocks were steady Wednesday after making early gains which took the All Share index within touching distance of 6,000 points, brokers said.
Stocks gained a marginal 0.02 percent, up 0.32 points from the previous day’s closing, to 5,992.04 points within the first half hour of trading. But the All Share index was down from a high of 5,999.08 points minutes after the opening bell.
The S&P SL20 of more liquid stocks gained 0.10 percent, up 3.04 points to 3,052.99.
Market turnover was a paltry 35 million rupees in the first 45 minutes of trading with 27 stocks declining and 14 gaining.
Melstacorp was up 2.20 rupees to 48.30 rupees and John Keells Holdings gained 50 cents to 154.50 rupees.
Hatton National Bank was trading 10 cents lower at 203.90 rupees and DFCC Bank was down 1 rupee to 90.50 rupees.
