Sri Lanka stocks up 1.8-pct
ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka stock market closed 1.8percent higher Monday helped by index heavy Brown Investments Expolanka, and John Keells Holdings, stock exchange data showed.
The CSE All share price index closed up 84.10 points at 7,203.63.
The S&P SL20 index of more liquid stocks gained 1.17 percent or 31.53 points to close at 2,736.40.
The market turnover was 7.7 billion rupees with 71 stocks gaining and 110 falling.
Browns Investments contributed most to the ASPI gain, closing 70 cents up at 7.20 rupees a share.
Expolanka Holdings gained 4.30 rupees to close at 38.60 rupees a share and John Keells Holdings gained 5.75 rupees to close at 154.75 rupees a share also contributing to the ASPI gain.
In the banking sector Hatton National fell 50 cents to close at 128.50 rupees, Sampath Bank closed 1.00 rupee down at 141.00 a share, Commercial Bank of Ceylon fell 10 cents to close at 82.30 rupees and DFCC Bank closed 80 cents down at 64.00 rupees.
Eden Hotel Lanka closed flat at 11.00 rupees a share while Aitken Spence Hotel Holdings gained 20 cents to close at 34.00 rupees.
John Keels Hotels closed flat at 10.90 rupees a share and Sigiriya Village hotel also closed flat at 36.70.
Sri Lanka Telecom closed 1.20 rupees up at 37.70 rupees and LOLC Holdings closed 5.00 rupees up at 160.00 rupees a share while Melstacorp Plc closed 80 cents down at 52.20 rupees a share.
Distilleries Company closed flat at 22.90 rupees and Richard Pieris Company closed 30 cents down at 14.70 rupees.
Ceylon Tobacco Company gained2.75rupees to close at 1,134.25 rupees and Ceylon Cold stores closed 2.00 rupees downat 699.00 rupees a share.
Hayles Plc closed 9.00 rupees up at 425.75 rupees and Softlogic Holdings closed 30 cents up at 13.30 rupees.
Tokyo Cement Company fell 80 cents to close at 76.20 rupees and Piramal Glass Ceylon closed 10 cents down at 9.60 rupees a share.
Nestle Lanka closed 4.50 rupees up at 1,337.25 rupees and Dialog Axiata closed 10 cents up at 12.70 rupees.
Aitken Spence Plc closed 1.50 rupees down at 56.40 rupees while Carson Cumberbatch closed 21.35 rupees open at 305.50 rupees.
Dipped Products gained 5.25 rupees to close at 345.25 rupees a share and Haycarb gained 32.50 rupees to close at 605.25 rupees.
Lanka Ceramic closed 2.10 rupees down at 135.00 rupees a share while Royal Ceramic Lankagained 2.50 rupees to close at 197.00 rupees a share.
The Food, Beverage and Tobacco industry was the most active, gained 1.5 percent. (Colombo/January 11/2021)
