ECONOMYNEXT- Sri Lanka had produced 23.4 million kilograms in October 2020, up 10.3 percent from a year earlier, thought cumulative production was down due to earlier disruptions, industry data show.
The recovery in October came despite an upsurge in Coronavirus mainly in the Western province around the capital. But some tea growing regions and plantations have also seen small clusters.
Production for October 2020 recovered from 21.2 million kilos, up by 2.1 million kilos to 23.4 million kilos, data from Ceylon Tea Brokers show.
In the 10 months to October 2020 Sri Lanka had produced 224 million kilograms down 10.3 percent from 254.2 million kilograms are year earlier. There were production disruptions during a lockdown in March and April 2020, Ceylon Tea Brokers said in a review.
In the month of October orthodox production was to 21.4 million kilos, up from 19 million kilos a year earlier.
Total CTC production for the month of October was down to 1.7 million kilos from 2 million kilos a year ago.
Sri Lanka produced a total of 23.2 million kilos of black tea, up by 2 million kilos from last year while total green tea production too gained marginally to 0.2 million kilos for October 2020.
Low Growns made up 65.7 percent of the total production for October while High Growns made up 19.4 percent and Mid Growns made up 14.9 percent. (Colombo/Dec21/2020)
