ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka will advertise internationally to hire staff for Colombo Port City Commission, which will function as an independent agency to administer land reclaimed by China Harbhour Engineering Corporation, a top official said.
The Port City Commission will have a Board and Chief Executive.
“The Commission will be independent in the conduct of their operations,” Secretary to the President P B Jayasundera told a forum organized by Veemansa, a Colombo-based think tank.
“The Commission will have a Chairman and Board of Directors with international reputations.
“And we will be advertising internationally to seek the required personnel for this landmark (project).”
The Colombo Port City will be an advanced one-stop-shop for investors and has been structured on the concept that drove the Greater Colombo Economic Commission, he said.
The Port City was conceived and its law was developed through three successive administrations with wide consultations.
“Three successive governments have got involved in this process and has verified its relevance,” he said.
The law structured after studying similar laws elsewhere to place it and advantageous position, he said. (Colombo/Apr12/2021)
