Sri Lanka to appoint key deputy ministers
ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka’s President Maithripala Sirisena is tipped to appoint key junior ministers shortly in the wake of recent changes to several cabinet level positions, political sources said.
Eran Wickramaratne is tipped to be junior finance minister working with newly appointed Finance Minister Mangala Samarawera. Wikramatne a former bank CEO, is known as a calm person who takes decisions carefully as considering evidence.
Harsha de Silva, Deputy Foreign Minister is also likely to get an economic policy related post, political sources said. De Silva is one of few politicians in South Asia with technical expertise, of a type known in advanced nations as a ‘policy wonk’.
Anoma Gamage, Deputy Minister of Petroleum Resources is a front runner for the Deputy Foreign Minister post, the sources said.
President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe made several cabinet changes last week in Finance, Ports, Petroleum and Foreign which will reset the administration and refresh is economic policy.
