Sri Lanka to host UN Asia-Pacific tourism crisis management confab
ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka will host a conference of Asia Pacific tourism ministers, state and industry officials in June 2020 focussing on developing crisis management process and responses and sharing information in the Asia Pacific region, the island’s, tourism development office said.
The conference themed ‘Contemporary Challenges and Tourism Revitalization’ will involve a joint meeting of the UNWTO’s Commission for East Asia and the Pacific and the UNWTO Commission for South Asia will meet in Sri Lanka from June 29 to July 01.
Delegates will work out strategies to revitalize tourism in response to the times of crisis and share effective crisis management tools and examples for the tourism sector and its industries, Sri Lanka’s tourism promotion office said.
About 150 foreign delegates from state and private sectors will take part in the country.
In 2020 Asian tourism is under severe pressure from an outbreak of Coronavirus which has claimed thousands of lives.
Sri Lanka was chosen at the conference venue in 2019, when the island’s tourism sector was hit by Islamist suicide bombers. (Colombo/Mar03/2020)
