Sri Lanka to open parliamentary probe on Easter blast failure

ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka will open a parliamentary select committee probe into Easter suicide attacks which happened despite a prior warning, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe had said.

Representatives of several civil society organizations and trade unions had met Prime Minister Wickremesinghe.

He had said that Parliamentary Select Committee has been appointed to investigate the incident and said the Speaker has agreed that its business will be open to media to ensure accountability.

A foreign country had warned that that Islamist organization was planning attacks on Churches.

The warning provided by intelligence had apparently been circulated by the police chief and only the deputy police chief in charge of VIP security had made use of it. (Colombo/May26/2019)
