ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka will progress with national security, economic development and welfare based on a native foundation, Treasury secretary Sajith Attygalle has said.
“There is new leadership and vision with a clear mandate,” Attygalle had said after assuming duties Tuesday.
“Under a leader who feels the pulse native values, everyone should get together to take the country forward on national security, economic development and welfare.”
At one time the Treasury had been held in high regard. But officials had then been summoned to the FCID and Bribery Commission to give evidence, undermining the standing of the institution.
Officials had then stopped taking decisions, he said.
“The continuation of this situation had blocked progress and officials should be able to take the correct decisions,” Attygalle was quoted as saying.
“As the people had given a clear mandate, we as officials should take correct decisions.”
Attygalle had told officials that he would back all decision taken by them.
Economic numbers found in statistics was not found in the real world and it was the duty of Treasury officials to make them a reality on the ground.
While per capita income was high, officials should commit themselves to make it a reality on the ground, he said. (SB-Colombo/Nov20/2019)
