Sri Lanka to review social media block: PM

ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka will review a ban on social media following an attack by Islamists on churches and hotels that killed more than 300 people, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said.

"We will consider that," Wickremesinghe told foreign correspondents in Colombo responding to a question when a block on will be lifted.

He said the clamp down on social media was to prevent any incitement and a repeat of an incident in ‘Digana’.

He was referring to violence against Muslims incited by Bhudhist extremists. Mass funerals of victims began on Tuesday.

Following the Easter Sunday attacks, religious and political leaders called for calm.
