Sri Lanka to stop imports of cars below Euro IV, without airbags, from July 01
ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka will stop the imports of cars below Euro IV emission standards and those without anti-lock brakes and airbags, the finance ministry said.
An extension had been given at the request of the vehicle industry but importers have been asked not to open letters of credit for vehicles below the specified standards to arrive at the country after July 01.
The cars also should have ‘three point’ seat belts.
At the moment the rules do not apply to three wheelers, buses and good carrying vans, sources said. (Colombo/Jan19/2018)
