ECONOMYNEXT – A decision on a presidential candidate of the United National Party will be made in the ‘next few days’ aspirant Sajith Premadasa told reporters after a meeting with Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.
“There were cordial discussions,” Premadasa told reporters late outside Temple Trees. “The decision will be made known in a few days.”
He said talks had taken place with Prime Minister Wickremesinghe and some representatives of the broader United National Front alliance.
He refused to name a date for a decision.
“I will look at this positively. You have to learn to be patient,” he told reporters who were peppering him with questions.
Premadasa has staked the claim for candidacy in public rallies and media interest has been kindled in the political drama.

Political sources said a committee has been appointed to talk with other alliance partners.
Premadasa met members of the Tamil National Alliance in Jaffna on the sidelines of business exhibition on Monday.
Premadasa who spoke at the venue had said a 13th amendment aimed at devolving power to the provinces must be strengthened. He said all people of the country must be treated equally and there should be no second class citizens.
Under Sri Lanka’s election law, the independent elections commission gets the power this week to name an election date.
Opposition Sri Lanka Podu Jana Party officials called for the date to be name early so that election laws would come into effect and put a halt to state sponsored advertising. (Colombo/Sept10/2019)
