Sri Lanka working with India on wedding bubble
ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka is working with India to set up a travel bubble to host destinations weddings in Sri Lanka and also resume meetings and incentive travel, the state tourism promotion office said.
Sri Lanka Convention Bureau has launched a ‘Meet in Sri Lanka’ program to resume Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, Exhibitions and Events tourism with the island resuming post-Coronavirus tourism.
Sri Lanka Tourism has had a strategy meeting with Sri Lanka Association of Professional Conference, Exhibition and Event Organisers (SLAPCEO) as part of resuming MICE travel.
Kimarli Fernando, Chairperson of Sri Lanka Tourism said Sri Lanka’s aim is not to compete with places like Dubai or Singapore.
“Sri Lanka is more of a distinct product in terms of location where individuals can visit Sri Lanka for a conference and then go on a safari in Yala, go whale watching and visit a tea plantation, all in a day if domestic flights are used to travel around the country,” she was quoted as saying.
Sri Lanka is currently working with the Indian government for a travel bubble agreement to host destination weddings in Sri Lanka, she said. (Colombo/Mar18/2021)
