Sri Lankan stocks close down, foreign buying in Lion Brewery
ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lankan stocks closed lower Thursday in thin trade with foreign buying seen in The Lion Brewery, brokers said.
The All Share Price Index closed at 5,989.90, down 1.39 points or 0.02 percent while the more liquid S&P SL20 index fell 3.37 points or 0.11 percent to end at 3,073.71. Turnover was a low 442 million rupees.
Crossings or negotiated block deals accounted for 31 percent of the turnover with two crossings in Ceylon Tobacco Company (CTC) and one in Central Finance.
Bartleet Religare Securities said the crossings helped CTC to top the turnover contributing 27 percent to the total.
Foreigners were net buyers during the day with a net foreign inflow of 82 million rupees, mainly in Lion Brewery.
