Sri Lankan stocks end up in thin trade
(EconomyNext) – Sri Lankan stocks closed firmer Friday in thin trade with indices pushed up by gains in index heavyweights on small volumes as most investors stayed away because of the festivities, brokers said.
The All Share Price Index closed up 45.78 points (0.63 percent) at 7,309.03 while the S&P SL20 index, which tracks the top 20 largest and most liquid stocks on the Colombo Stock Exchange, ended up 14.42 points (0.35 percent) at 4,084.17.
Turnover fell to a low 438 million rupees.
The benchmark was pushed up mainly by gains in CTC, which closed at 1,052.40, up 37.20 rupees (3.66 percent), Sri Lanka Telecom which ended up 1.40 (2.80 percent) at 51.40 rupees and Ceylinco Insurance, which closed at 1,374.90, up 63.70 (4.86 percent), all on trades of just a few hundred shares.
