Sri Lanka’s Colombo airport temporarily closed over bad weather

ECONOMYNEXT- Sri Lanka’s Colombo airport faced a temporary closure Wednesday evening due to adverse weather, an official said.

The Bandaranaike International Airport Duty Manager said that SriLankan flight UL315 from Kuala Lumpur due at 5.00pm was diverted to Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport in the country’s south coast.

Qatar Airways QR654 from Doha, SriLankan UL365 from Jakarta and UL303 from Singapore were also diverted to Mattala. 

UL145 from Madurai to Colombo was asked to return to the originating airport, the official said.

The weather has now thinned and normal operations are being restored, he said.

Passengers onboard UL315 reported that the flight would once more be underway at 6.20pm. (Colombo/Apr17/2019, Updated at 1830-SB)
