Sri Lanka’s Colombo Stock Exchange closed for curfew as tea auctions go live
ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka’s Colombo Stock Exchange said it will not open on April 22 as earlier announced after curfews in Colombo was extended to April 27, while the century old tea auctions moved online.
“Subsequent to the statement, the Government has announced that the curfew in the districts of Colombo, Gampaha, Kalutara and Puttalam will continue until 27th April 2020,” the stock exchange said.
“In view of the above, the CSE will not recommence Trading on 22nd April 2020.”
The closure of the stock exchange has caused concern among some foreign investors as they have been unable to exit, brokers with international clients said.
Sri Lanka starts second e-auction for tea in Colombo
It is not clear why the market which has electronic trading and de-materialized clearing does not operate.
