EconomyNext – Thailand-based ONYX Hospitality Group has begun building its third hotel in Sri Lanka in the southern Galle tourist resort under its Amari brand.
The 172-room hotel named Amari Galle is located on Galle Road, about 2.5km north of the Galle Fort.
The hotel’s facilities will include a swimming pool, gym, spa, banqueting facilities and two restaurants.
Owned by Sino Lanka Hotels Galle (PVT) Ltd. and headed by Bob Kundanmal, Amari Galle will be managed by ONYX Hospitality Group.
The hospitality group has two hotels in Sri Lanka under the brand OZO; OZO Colombo which opened in June 2014 and OZO Kandy which is due to open in April this year.
"Tourism is thriving and we think a full service hotel product like Amari will be very well received in the market," said Peter Henley, President and Chief Executive, ONYX Hospitality Group.
"Sri Lanka’s tourism industry is growing rapidly, with 2.5 million tourists expected to arrive by 2016," said Bob Kundanmal, owner, Sino Lanka Hotels Galle.
"This property, along with other two OZOs in Colombo and Kandy will help to meet the projected demand for new hotel rooms around the island.”
Amari’s network of properties spans Thailand, Qatar and Bangladesh. A further eight Amari projects are in the pipeline in China, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Maldives.
