ECONOMYNEXT – HTCey Aqua Cutlure (Pvt) Ltd will invest 1.8 million US dollars to build a shrimp farm using new technology which will boost capacity, Sri Lanka’s state investment promotion agency said.
An investment agreement with the Board of Investment was signed with Chairman Susantha Ratnayake and HTCey Aqua Managing Director Mansur Hassen and Director Sithara Hafeel.
The firm will convert an existing 16-acre shrimp farm using new technology.
“This includes the usage of high density circular ponds, methods for higher productivity per footprint and per cycle, efficient energy usage and responsible water management,” Hassen said.
“We have also secured a further 37 acres of land earmarked for the second phase of this project which will involve inland farming of Vannamei, a first of its kind in Sri Lanka.”
HTCey Aqua Culture, is part of group that also also includes HTCey Agriculture and Livestock and HTCey Leisure, a local destination management company the BOI said. (Colombo/Aug17/2020)
