Sri Lanka’s market closed over Coronavirus on March 19
ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka’s Colombo Stock Exchange is closed on March 19, 2020 over Coronavirus, and will not open, despite an earlier decision to re-start trading.
Following a request of the Securities and Exchange Commission the market will remain closed, the CSE said.

Trading On 19thMarch 2020 (Thursday)
We write further to our Circular (No. 04-03-2020) dated 18thMarch 2020 regarding the above, notifying the decision taken by the Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE), in consultation with the Securities & Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka (SEC), to resume trading on Thursday, 19thMarch 2020.
Following a subsequent request of the SEC and taking into consideration the steps taken by the Government to minimize public interactions in curbing the spread of COVID-19 (including the restricted banking services), the request to extend the holiday to the private sector, except for maintaining specified essential services and in order to ensure the safety of all market Participants, the CSE has been advised to close the market for Trading on Thursday, 19thMarch 2020.
Accordingly, 19thMarch 2020 will be considered as a market holiday.
