Sri Lanka’s national inflation picks up to 2.4-pct in February
ECONOMYNEXT- Sri Lanka’s nation-wide inflation picked up to 2.4 percent in the 12 months to February 2019 from 1.2 percent in January 2018, the highest in six months, the Department of Census and Statistics said.
The rise was driven by a price increase of items in the non-food category while prices of food fell, a statement said.
Non-food inflation increased to 6.7 percent in February 2019 from 6.5 percent in Janary 2019.
Year-on-year food inflation decreased to 2.9 percent, having fallen 4.8 percent in January 2019.
The month-on-month change of the National Consumer Price Index, calculated by the Department of Census and Statistics, fell by 0.5 per cent in February 2019 to126.7.
