ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka’s state-run Paddy Marketing Board will purchase rough rice from farmers in the upcoming Yala minor cultivation season at predetermined prices and will also give a price supplement for transport, cabinet spokesman Minister Ramesh Pathirana said.
The Treasury will provide funds to the PMD and district secretaries. The current Yala season is expected to product 1.5 million tonnes of paddy.
The PMB will buy Nadu paddy at 50 rupees per kilogram, Samba at 52 rupees and Keeri Samba at 55 rupees.
A 1.50 rupee supplement will be paid for processing and transport for high quality paddy.
An additional 1.50 supplement will be paid to any farmer organization for processing and transporting paddy bought from farmers in remote areas.
For paddy with moisture content of between 14 to 22 percent, 8 rupee will be discounted from the guaranteed prices.
If the paddy dried, farmer organization and millers with drying facilities will be paid an additional 4 rupees for drying and 2 rupee to transport. (Colombo/July06/2021)
