Sri Lanka’s state universities begin vaccinating students, staff aged 20-29

ECONOMYNEXT – Vaccinating students, academic and non academic staff of state universities who are aged 20 to 29 commenced on Monday (11) at all government universities and will continue for five days, an official said.

Chairman of the University Grants Commission, Sampath Amaratunga told media on Monday (11) that all academic and non academic staff in universities above 30 years of age have already received both doses of a COVID-19 vaccine.

Amaratunga said vaccination centres have already been established in university premises in all universities and university affiliates.

Students, academic and non academic staff can go to the nearest university to their residence to get the jab, he said.

“All universities have been made aware of this and there is no need to visit their own university due to travel restrictions. Tthe vaccine should be obtained from the nearest university or affiliated institution,” Amaratunga said.

“The identity card issued by the university should be taken to confirm your identity. If you do not have a university identity card, you should bring a document that can prove your identity,” he added.

Amaratunga said the date for the commencement of universities will be decided upon discussion with the vice chancellors of the universities, the health sector and all relevant parties. (Colombo/Oct11/2021)
